The Virginia Veterinary Center in Short Pump, VA is hiring a full- time Veterinary Assistant to join our Internal Medicine team!

Position Overview:

The Veterinary Assistant carries out assigned duties and is adaptable to changes in the work pattern. As a Veterinary Assistant, your job entails important aspects of our hospital: patient care and treatment, client service, and hospital cleanliness.

Job Responsibilities:

Assist in induction and sedation of patients with a Licensed Veterinary TechnicianSetup, Assist, and Clean up following all daily procedures and operations such as Endoscopies, CT, Tube Placements, and other diagnostic/anesthetic procedures, while also understanding the proper materials and equipment needed for each procedureRestraining patients accurately and safely for diagnostic imaging, such as but not limited to, direct digital radiology, ultrasonography, and venipunctureAssist in the collection and proper handling of certain samples such as biopsies, and how to submit them to outside laboratoriesAssist in the conduction of appointments whether new patients or recheck appointments, and understanding the process of the appointments and the difference between the two typesPractice professional and empathetic communication between clients and other team members when obtaining and relaying medical histories in a professional, medical manner, with proper medical terminologyHelp to restock supplies throughout the day to ensure proficiencies and efficienciesWork under the direct supervision and take orders from your DVM and LVT on dutyAssist in weekly inventory checks and notifying inventory manager of items that need replenishingAble to understand and function within the electronic practice management software to locate and pull previous medical records and to start initial records for each appointment

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent requiredAbility to speak directly with clients and other hospital team members. Having strong communication skills is valuable and importantAbility to work in a team environment by taking direction and assisting other medical team membersExemplifies a strong work ethic, with a positive attitudeAble to multitask and work under pressureAbility to lift, push, and pull above 50lbs and stand for prolonged periods of time

Based on employee interest, Veterinary Assistant Certification and/or Licensed Veterinary Technician Program Financial assistance may be available.

Shift Details:

4/10-hour shifts per weekOn- call rotations as needed Compensation:Based on experience & skill set. Starting at $20/hr!
