Huffard Animal Hospital is a well-established and bustling 8-doctor Small Animal General Practice. We offer wellness and preventative care, same-day appointments for sick patients, in-house diagnostic capability (bloodwork, radiographs, ultrasound), overnight supervised hospitalization, technician services, elective and emergency surgeries, dental cleaning, and boarding.
The veterinary assistant provides support to the entire veterinary team. Each department in the hospital works cohesively to safely and compassionately provide the veterinary care needed by pets and their owners. It is important that a candidate for this position be able to integrate well with different people, and to dedicate themselves to providing superior medical care for our patients and their owners. Our staff works a rotating weekly schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old Must be motivated to independently seek ways to help the team throughout the day, in addition to performing all expected duties You genuinely enjoy working with pets and are committed to providing compassionate care regardless of whether they are healthy, stressed, ill or painful Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting, carrying, and proper, safe restraint of animals (will be assisted by other staff members when lifting pets over 40 lbs); should be able to walk/stand for extended periods of time; may frequently work in a bent or squatting position At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary hospital, but willing to train on-the-job for motivated candidates
Responsibilities
Utilize effective fear-free techniques for safe handling and restraint of patients to facilitate examination, vaccination, and other diagnostic procedures and treatments Provide excellent customer service, including answering phone calls, responding to client texts and emails, and compassionately help clients navigate the care of their pet, whether healthy or ill Assist with routine diagnostic tests, i.e. radiographs, blood work, cytology Monitor hospitalized and post-operative patients Maintain cleanliness and proper sterilization of surgical instruments, equipment, and operating rooms Administer medications and fluids under the supervision of a veterinarian or licensed veterinary technician Clean and disinfect cages, kennels, exam rooms, and treatment areas of the hospital Feeding and bathing patients in the hospital and boarding settings Maintain inventory and restock suppliesCompensation
