Burnham Park Animal Hospital is a 5-doctor practice in the South Loop of Chicago located near Grant Park, Buckingham Fountain, and Lake Michigan. We have a beautifully updated hospital with 7 exam rooms, a surgical suite, a radiology suite, two dental tables, and a large treatment area. At Burnham Park, we have a full staff of trained Technicians and Customer Service Representatives. Our doctors' veterinary experience ranges from 1.5 years to 30 years. We are an AAHA Accredited Hospital and pride ourselves in practicing Gold Standard Medicine and striving to improve our skills through learning and new technology every day.    Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.     Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Burnham Park Animal Hospital are offered to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students.   Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
