Veterinary Extern - General Practice Eastern Shore Animal Hospital
NVA
Eastern Shore Animal Hospital is a 3-doctor practice with a brilliant staff who enjoy coming to work every day. We have state-of-the-art equipment including digital radiographs, digital dental radiographs, ultrasound, laser therapy, dental and surgical suite, Idexx Catalyst, Lasercyte, and Sedivue.
Our clinic has no on-call, and we are closed on Sundays, with half days on Saturdays. We see wildlife and exotics, are AAHA accredited and many members of our staff are Fear Free Certified.
We are hardworking, funny, and involved in our community with Adopt -A-Highway trash pick-ups, and volunteering with our local animal control shelter, We also host the holiday drive gift wrapping station for our local domestic violence shelter, provide free services for our local wildlife rehabilitators and discounted services for our local rescue groups.
Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The Eastern Shore of Virginia is a gorgeous rural area – a dream for a person who enjoys the quiet outdoors. Opportunities in nature include wildlife trails, swimming at beaches, fishing, and cruises on the water by boat or kayak. We would love to host you for an externship!
Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
