We are looking for a Neurology Veterinary Assistant to join our team!
**This position is expected to work Monday-Friday 8m-4pm. Schedules are subject to change based on the needs of the Hospital and Department. Training days/hours TBD.**
*This position will pay $18-$22 hourly DOE*
Summary: Assist the Neurology/Neurosurgeon Technicians and Veterinarian with patient care, client care and the maintenances of space, supplies, and equipment.
Essential Functions:
Patient Care:
Assists Technicians in obtaining vitals.Administers oral medications as prepared by Technician.Assists Technicians in completing radiographs – input data, restraint, and submission.Assists Technicians with basic patient intake, including collecting relevant history and medical information from the client.Feed, walk and weigh hospitalized patients that are stable as requestedAssist team in the Operating Room during surgical proceduresProvides patient restraint during procedures and examinations.Prepares medications as directed by veterinary personnel.Processing samples (internal and external)Client Care:
Participate in the management of client communications: phone, email and in person as neededChecking in clients for appointments and/or procedures.Collecting payment as requested.Maintenance of space, supplies, and equipment:
Stocks and cleans all common areas and sterile surgical spaces and equipment.Wash, fold and put away laundry.Ensures that the clinic environment is clean and sanitized, clean animal cages, and sanitize all treatment areas to includes tables, equipment, counters, floors, and etc.Prepares instruments as directed by veterinary personnel.Follows all OSHA regulations and Hospital safety standards.Other:
Other duties as assignedAssists other departments as assignedComplete hospital-based down time dutiesCompletes cross-training competencies and fulfils other roles in the hospital as needed.Skill Requirements: Ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment fulfilling many responsibilities daily. Independent self-starter that can execute daily tasks under minimal supervision.
Minium Qualifications: At least 1 year of Veterinary Assistant experience.
Preferred Qualifications: At least 2 years’ experience as a Veterinary Assistant in a Specialty Practice. Experience scrubbing in to surgery. Experience with blood draws.
Educational Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent required.
Computer Skills: Knowledge of Veterinary PIMS, EasyVet and Smartflow preferred.
Language Ability: Ability to speak in an understandable manner and understand the English language.
Emotional Demands: Veterinary medicine can be emotionally stressful. Neuro Assistants will be exposed to critical patients in triage and occasionally patients who will be euthanized. A Neuro Assistant must handle stress well and in a healthy manner. They must keep a positive attitude with clients and fellow employees at all times.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
Physical Requirements: This job is physically active and may require frequent bending. It also requires routine lifting and restraining of animals in excess of 50 pounds. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit, and use hands. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee will encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work environment is predominantly indoors with occasional outdoor exposure when walking patients. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals related to veterinary medicine.
