Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Murray State University is seeking a full-time Veterinary Pathologist/Assistant Professor for its Hopkinsville, KY location.
The Veterinary Pathologist/Assistant Professor’s primary responsibilities include the following:
+ This position is 85% diagnostic pathology, 10% teaching, and 5% scholarly activity.
+ Conduct necropsy and histopathologic examinations on mammalian, avian and exotic carcasses. Then choose appropriate ancillary tests and report findings to the submitting client within a timely manner.
+ Histopathologic examination of formalin fixed samples submitted by referring veterinarians.
+ Conduct cytodiagnostics by examining, interpreting, and reporting finds on submitted cytologies (aspirates and impression smears), occasional blood smears, and urine sediments.
+ Conduct rabies testing which includes setting up and interpreting FA tests for potential rabies cases.
+ Provide consultation and continuing education for veterinarians and livestock farmers.
+ Support the curriculum of the Veterinary Technology Program as an Assistant Professor.
+ Attend annual meetings such as the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians or American College of Veterinary Pathologist.
+ Adherence to the Quality Management System and utilization of LIMS .
+ Expected to work as a member of a team and leverage the experience of other pathologists for challenging cases.
+ Good communication skills including both written and oral are necessary to provide clear explanations of results to clients.
+ Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Requirements:
+ Candidates must have Doctor of Veterinary Medicine ( DVM ) from an accredited College of Veterinary Medicine.
+ A minimum of a Masters in Anatomical Pathology/Pathobiology or completion of a residency program from an AVMA / AAVLD / ACLAM accredited program is required.

Minimum Salary: $90,000
Maximum Salary: $100,000
Work Hours:
+ Up to 5% local travel to present and attend professional meetings.
+ This position is included in an after-hours rotation to accommodate livestock producers and may require responding on weekends and holidays.
