Animal Emergency & Specialty Hospital in Byron Center, MI is a growing 24-hour Emergency & Specialty hospital offering a fast-paced work and rewarding environment. We are looking for an Ophthalmology Technician to join our outstanding Ophthalmology department! Our seasoned Emergency Veterinarians, Technicians, and Assistants pride themselves on providing high-quality medical care to our patients around the clock. We are looking for candidates available to work (4) 10 hour shifts per week.

Our new, state of the art, Emergency & Specialty hospital provides 10,000 square feet to allow for 24 hour Emergency & Critical Care to our community. Our hospital is located close to Tanger Outlet Mall. Byron Center is also home to unique independent stores, many comfort-food restaurants and abundant recreation opportunities. Byron Center is easily accessible from two major expressways and is just 15 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids.

The Ideal Candidate:Solid technical skills and anesthesia knowledge base, sound judgment, and the ability to function both independently and with a team are requiredVenipuncture; IV catheter placement; medication calculations and administration; patient prep and recovery; anesthesia monitoring for a variety of anesthetized proceduresAssisting Ophthalmologist during patient appointments, providing outstanding client communication and educationPerforming sterile scrub and assist Ophthalmologist throughout surgical proceduresAdvocating for the patient, providing exceptional comfort, diagnostic, surgical, and nursing care to all patientsJob requirements: Minimum of 2 years of relevant technical experienceTechnical skill set such as restraint, phlebotomy, catheter placement and general nursing care experience is neededPreference given to applicants with advanced skill sets which include Schirmer tear tests, tonometry, ocular ultrasounds, electroretinograms, and the use of paralyticsAnesthesia monitoring, perform sterile scrub, assist doctors throughout a variety of surgical proceduresAbility to lift and restrain patients up to 40lbsAbility to work in a collaborative environmentCommitment to develop long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and communityExcellent communication and organizational skillsAdvocate for patient careSelf-motivated with a passion for veterinary medicineAbility to multi-task and thrive in a fast- paced environmentLVT preferred but not required
