The VP of Engineering is responsible for leading high-performing engineering teams that deliver high-quality software aligned with Bonterra's overall strategy. This role emphasizes a collaborative approach, where you’ll work closely with diverse teams to drive AI adoption and continual technical and process improvement. Through fostering customer confidence and maintaining strong cross-functional alignment, this role significantly impacts the business by ensuring timely, reliable product delivery that meets customer needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Quality: Deliver high-quality software with clear standards for security, performance, reliability, usability, and simplicity.

Perform hands-on work and lead others on design, dev, testing, and deployment activities. Lead the adoption of AI across design, coding and testing activities.

Implement continuous integration, delivery, and deployment.

Implement code inspection through static analysis and efficient testing protocols (unit, regression, automated, functional, security, performance).

Identify and repay critical technical debt that poses a high risk to stability and performance.

Ensure a robust RCA process is in place to understand systemic process or technical failures and execute improvement actions.

Timeliness: Ensure timely delivery of projects and products.

Continuously improve Dev and QA process, accelerate delivery frequency and velocity. Implement the necessary automation and quality controls to automatically deploy each PR and rely on automated schedules for production deployments.

Defects:

Frequent triage based on severity, escalation status, and business impact (customer revenue).

Ensure resolution within SLA requirements per severity levels and additional external constraints (e.g. FedRAMP requirements)

Use JIRA to monitor SLA adherence, automate notifications for pending SLA breaches. Create RCAs for SLA breaches and identify and execute system improvement actions.

Work with PM to ensure Roadmap and Execution are aligned and quarterly goals are ambitious and realistic.

Ensure sprint goals and commitments are consistently completed and SDDs are ready before the end of the previous initiative.

Customer Management: Build customer confidence in engineering capabilities, product quality, and roadmap. Act as a technical advocate with customers and customer-facing functions.

Participate in customer meetings when necessary to ensure customer success or secure revenue.

Provide solutions and guidance to resolve client issues and escalations.

Ensure timely communication and collaboration with key stakeholders (e.g. Client Success, Sales, Professional Services) regarding: inflow (incoming bugs and their business impact) & outflow (planned releases and their scope (release notes))

Cross-functional Collaboration: Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment, promoting open communication and alignment with diverse internal teams.

Participate in Alignment calls and provide written updates based on the R&D Vision & Execution Framework

Create a public Product Dashboard with key metrics, release schedule and release notes

Resolve internal issues or bottlenecks related to cross-functional collaboration

Inclusive Team Building: Create an inclusive, autonomous, and competent engineering team capable of maintaining, operating, and innovating on Bonterra products.

Align the teams with the company strategy and goals.

Represent the teams in front of senior/executive management.

Lead and mentor engineering managers and team members, creating an environment that fosters high engagement, productivity, and accountability.

Develop a structured onboarding plan to ramp up new engineers and cross-train existing engineers.

Implement a structured pair-work program, pairing new or less experienced engineers with senior team members.

Performance Improvement: Drive continuous improvements in quality, velocity, and goal delivery.

Ensure teams are consistently performing and meeting objectives, and ensure individual metrics are set up accurately tracking individual productivity and quality, and they receive effective coaching.

Requirements:

10 years of progressive experience in engineering with at least 5 years of that in a leadership position

A founder's mindset with experience building and launching new products

Saas and AWS or Azure experience required

Experience building and scaling high performing teams with a customer-centric approach to problem solving

Compensation

The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. 

 

Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and in addition to benefits this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses/incentives, and equity. 

 

US Base Salary Range: $170,000 - $197,000 w/a 20% annual bonus
