Job Description

The Vice President, Neuroscience Pillar Head, Rare Diseases will act as the pillar lead for Neuroscience Rare Diseases, and will oversee Rare Disease pillars.

This role is accountable for the evaluation of business segment and target partners and ensuring successful completion of assigned studies/portfolio/clients through the oversight of relevant resources and functions. This role will lead and provide active support for early engagement, and for RFIs/RFPs through the Bid Defense Meetings. In addition, this role will drive strategy specific to protocols to ensure optimum performance and achievement of targets to support Sponsor submissions. This will include the evaluation of virtual studies and leveraging emerging technologies, as well as collaboration with functional area leads and other CRG and Thermo Fisher divisions to identify and evaluate fundamental issues on the project and ensure that solutions are implemented. This role will also drive the establishment of proactive partnerships with vendors and PAGs. 

Key Responsibilities:

Ensures the timely execution of clinical trials with key operational metrics while being accountable for achieving overall financial goals (sales/repeat business, revenue and profitability)

Works globally within CRG and Thermo Fisher groups to develop new and/or support existing rare diseases, cell and gene therapy and other emerging therapies business

Collaborates with leadership in all functional areas on the continuous development/improvement of business processes to support cross functional teams and to ensure that work is uniform, complete and led appropriately

Responsible for and ensures proactive identification of project risks and potential contingencies impacting time/quality/cost of deliverables are effectively handled and raised through appropriate escalation pathways. Further assesses all risks for potential impact across multiple projects and any cross therapeutic impact

Develops and implements the specialty pillar business plans, forecasting and sales/marketing plans

 Cultivate and strengthens client relationships and develops the strategic sell initiative of the Rare Disease pillar. Strategically evaluates PPD against competitors and makes recommendations to increase PPD’s competitive edge. Provides administrative oversight of the department, including staffing, budgeting, scheduling and long term planning

Provides ongoing coaching and feedback including formal performance appraisals, development plans and career coaching

Proactively supports and drives business development activities and seeks to obtain additional contracts which may include making presentations to potential clients and representing PPD at appropriate professional meetings and conferences

Provides executive oversight/decision making/financial approvals for Critical Issue Resolution Meetings

Serves as designated Customers’ “Executive” contact person for all issues. Communicates with sponsor(s) regularly to obtain direction and feedback on implementing scope of work as well as performance to date and identifies areas of opportunity for improvement

Identifies unusual or significant problems encountered during the course of a clinical trial and proposes strategies for preventing or correcting significant problems

Will be a Member of Rare Disease and Pediatric and Gene Therapy Operational Centers of Excellence 

Qualifications/ Skills and Experience:

Deep and current knowledge of the scientific, clinical, regulatory, operational and competitive landscape 

 Strong commercial and financial acumen 

Executive presence and gravitas 

Strategic thinker with proven ability to support businesses through rapid growth and/or change 

Ability to develops, drive and implement strategic plans through demonstrating relationships and influencing others

Demonstrated track record of success in clinical development and in leading and developing professional staff in a project led environment

In-depth knowledge of Neuroscience and Rare Diseases industry, concepts and terminology 

Strong customer management skills and demonstrated ability to understand customer needs, have difficult conversations with internal/external stakeholders and customers, negotiate solutions and understand impacts on the overall program/portfolio 

 Exceptional leadership skills with ability to motivate teams 

Strong competitive and business intelligence with ability to convert strategies into therapeutic unit profitability and business growth 

Strong presentation skills 

Must exhibit the skills to collaborate with and achieve actionable results through others, with the ability to build strong and sustainable relationships and the capability to interact within all levels of the organization 

Demonstrated learning agility and openness to learning and keeping own knowledge and skill set current and evolving 

Experienced knowledge of project management principles and application

Knowledge of regulatory guidelines and directives, medical therapeutic area and medical terminology

Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including good command of English language

Ability to travel up to 30%
