The Vice President Professional Practice oversees functional area to ensure it is performing effectively, which may include but not limited to, preparing and implementing business strategy to achieve the organization’s goals, ensuring legal compliance, communicating and collaborating with stakeholders, and overseeing the company's financial performance. Oversees employment decisions at the upper management level of the company. Manages the operations of Professional Practice, including working with operating units' leadership and teams to assist in achieving system integration related to nursing practice, education, and research. Directs a system-wide approach to Magnet ® Recognition Designation. Oversees all transition into practice programs in nursing including but not limited to new graduate RN residency, APP Transition into Practice and the Nurse Leader Transition into Practice. Leads and coordinates key nursing strategic development and functional services to support department objectives and organizational goals. Manages department finances, including budgeting and control of salary, non-salary, and capital investment expenses. Collaborates with the Foundation and Grant Management Offices for all internal and external grants management. Manages professional and clerical staff, including day-to-day supervision, employee relations, and staff development. Maintains effective and responsive relationships with all interprofessional parties. Manages educational and career development initiatives for the system.

Vice President, Professional Practice Job Responsibilities:

Manages the operation of Professional Practice, including working with operating units and staff to assist in achieving system integration related to nursing practice, education, and research. Leads and coordinates key nursing strategic development and functional services to support department objectives and organizational goals. Develops creative and innovative approaches to improve clinical nursing care, including new models of care, research to test redesigned roles of the RN, and development of methods to create sustained excellence in nursing practice that lead to national distinction. Initiates and evaluates program design, development and implementation. Oversees all transition into practice programming.
Manages department finances, including budgeting and control of salary, non-salary, and capital investment expenses. Coordinates and monitors the development of long range plans and annual budgets for the department. Monitors financial performance to ensure it meets budgeted revenue/expense ratios for programs with oversight responsibility.
Establishes team performance expectations and manages recruitment, retention, employee relations, and staff development.
Oversees customer relations for program. Responds promptly to requests from other departments within the operating unit, and maintains cooperative relationship with corresponding department(s) at other operating units. Ensures adherence to Service Excellence standards and provision of the outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers. Works closely with HR/INPD/PCDs/CNEs to coordinate and expand efforts and build partnerships.
In conjunction with INPD, coordinates, oversees, expands, and evaluates the effectiveness of clinical outreach opportunities, including the clinical placements of all nursing students across the system, school partnerships, and nursing scholarship programs.
In collaboration with the CNE team and nursing leadership team assist with facilitating Shared Nursing Governance, Magnet applications and standards systemwide.
Manages educational and career development initiatives for the system. Oversees the student placement. Manages and provide overall guidance for the nursing grant and scholarship program.
Ensures that department/functional operations are in full compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency standards.
Organizes, monitors and coordinates QA/QI activities, and EBP, research and implementation science initiatives
Vice President, Professional Practice Requirements:
Education - Masters Degree in Nursing, Doctorate in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred
Experience - 10 years of professional nursing experience and 5 years of nurse management experience; 3 years experience in professional practice work and ANCC Magnet ®Recognition
Licensure - Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse
Certification - Certified Nurse Executive - Advanced ANCC or AONE
