Business Overview

Data Strategy & Solutions is a Global Research & Data team within BlackRock Portfolio Management Group (PMG) focused on developing AI powered products and generating actionable insights using alternative, primary and big data. We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist, with experience in Large Language Models, Natural Language Processing, (NLP), and Transformer Models, to spearhead the build-out of AI powered capabilities within Investment Research, Product Strategy, and Process Optimization.

There are four groups within Data Strategy & Solutions – Investment AI, Insights & Data Products, Solutions, and Platform. All these groups work towards various aspects of Alpha Generation using Alternative data for a host of portfolio management functions.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Software Developer (Full Stack) to join the Data Strategy & Solutions team. This role is critical in driving the development of data-centric software solutions, with a strong focus on designing and building proprietary software application that harness the power of data, analytics, and AI at scale. You will be at the forefront of creating scalable and robust software products that align with strategic business objectives, while also mentoring junior developers and collaborating with stakeholders across the organization.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Lead Architecture and Design: Spearhead the design and implementation of scalable, data-intensive software products. Architect and develop systems that process and analyze large volumes of data, ensuring high performance and reliability. Your work will be pivotal in advancing our capabilities in data, analytics, and AI applications.

Build Automation Pipelines: Design and implement automation pipelines, including continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) workflows. Ensure that our software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices are robust, efficient, and aligned with industry best practices.

Mentor and Guide: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior software developers, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and innovation. Set high standards for coding practices, design quality, and overall technical execution.

Strategic Roadmap Development: Act as a thought leader by defining and driving the strategic roadmap for data-centric software solutions. This includes integrating cutting-edge technologies and methodologies, particularly in the realm of data, analytics, and AI.

Stakeholder Management: Manage and align stakeholders' expectations, ensuring that technical concepts are communicated effectively and that projects are delivered on time and in line with business objectives. Build strong relationships across the organization to facilitate collaboration and support.

Hands-On Development: Leverage your excellent programming skills and deep knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and system design to build high-quality, maintainable software. Emphasize performance, code quality, and design best practices throughout the development process.

Technology and Vendor Evaluation: Lead the review, evaluation, and selection of new technologies and vendors to ensure that our software solutions are built on the most advanced and reliable platforms available.

Requirements

Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Technical Expertise:

Proficiency in Python and strong experience with GoogleCloudPlatform (GCP).

Extensive experience in building and maintainingdata-centricsoftwareproducts.

Strong knowledge of datastructures, algorithms, and systemdesign with a focus on performance optimization.

Proven ability in automation and CI/CD practices, with a track record of implementing efficient pipelines.

Leadership and Mentorship: Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, mentor junior developers, and foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

Stakeholder Management: Experience in managing relationships with stakeholders, aligning technical projects with business goals, and communicating complex concepts effectively.

Flexibility and Attention to Detail: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a strong focus on detail and quality.

Desirable Skills

Data Engineering Focus: Experience in designing and building data pipelines, particularly in unstructured data and AI/ML applications.

Advanced Programming: Expertise in Python and familiarity with related data processing technologies (e.g., Postgres, MongoDB, Redis, BigQuery).

Cloud and Distributed Systems: Experience with cloud-native platforms and deploying distributed systems that scale effectively.

AI and Machine Learning: Understanding of AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and their integration into software products.

Innovative Mindset: Curiosity and drive to design, evaluate, and implement data architectures for AI applications.

Our hybrid work model
