Vice President, Station Operations
Nexstar Media Group, Inc., the nation’s largest television owner/operator group is seeking a Vice President, Station Operations. This position will work directly with the Executive Vice President, Operations to manage Nexstar’s portfolio of owned and operated network and independent affiliates throughout the country. This position will also work with projects supporting The CW Network, NewsNation, Antenna TV and Rewind TV. The ideal candidate will work closely with IT leadership for all aspects of upgrades and future development to make sure local infrastructures are managed in accordance with internal change policy requirements. This position will manage future strategic projects such as new buildouts, facility relocations and consolidations as well as any needs involving capital planning and purchasing. The candidate will oversee and be involved in top level technical decisions affecting operations and work very closely with the Vice President, Network Operations on collaborative projects. The VP, Station Operations will provide technical oversight to differentiate Nexstar’s local platform to continue to excel in best of class technical facilities and infrastructure to complement our position in the marketplace. Responsibilities include: + Oversee all technical builds for any local station projects in conjunction with EVP, Operations + Lead a talented team of technical engineers and designers on the local level with projects from coast to coast + Manage and direct multi-city operations and engineering personnel on operational issues relating to daily live broadcasts including transmission, technical equipment, vendors and new initiatives or emerging technologies + Give guidance on staffing, training, and performance evaluations for the network operations and engineering employees if needed + Work with corporate leadership to develop and implement new technologies and technical infrastructure for local operations, as well as recommend capital technology project costs in relation to available budget(s) + Maintain broadcast technology and equipment standards for local Chief Engineers to follow + Search out, review, and recommend new technical procedures and technology related to local or FCC mandated requirements, work with other corporate engineering and operational leadership in the sharing of equipment and technical information + Travel to remote production sites to obtain feedback on technical needs and solutions + RF system design/management and transmitter experience + Maintain quality control standards to ensure current 24/7 operation and FCC requirements are achieved + Manage content and file sharing platforms between multiple cities making sure workflows are consistent with personnel demand and vendor base + Make decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion, and termination of local Chief Engineers in concert with Regional Vice Presidents and local General Managers + Assign projects to staff and verify deadlines are achieved + Work with technology vendors on pricing and purchasing as well as software updates to ensure systems are compliant with current standards + Work closely with Information Technology staff and systems to ensure security parameters are being met + Execute accountability of standards, controls, and processes in relation to design and technical implementation + Work with local and network operations management to create consistent workflow through operability of base systems + Work with Labor Relations on any union contracts necessitating specific workflows About you: + Bachelor's degree in communications, engineering or related fields recommended, a minimum of 10-15 years broadcast or network operations experience + Overall understanding of television production/technical operations both studio and remote as well as current ATSC transmission standards + Ability to multi-task and work under daily time constraints is essential + Five to seven years management experience in a local television environment + Local union management is a plus + Familiar with broadcast standards and practices as well as FCC regulations + Knowledge of broadcast engineering, designing signal flow, encoding, and transmission paths + Experience guiding, directing, and motivating staff, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance + Experience with fiber connectivity, production setups, A/V routing and patching, audio equipment, graphics systems and editing systems + Familiarity with Ross Production Systems, Bit Central Systems, TVU Systems as well as Dante Audio is necessary + Experience establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them + Experience engaging and collaborating with organizational senior leaders and multiple teams with distinct needs, across an organization + Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously + Excellent written and oral skills + Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills + Proficiency with computers and new forms of technology + Must have strong familiarity with Microsoft Office products with emphasis on Excel + Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record About Nexstar Media Group, Inc.
