Vice President Clinical, Medical, and Regulatory Affairs

   

 

PURPOSE

Acts in the key leadership role for Novo Nordisk Canada Inc. (NNCI), CMR and serves as a member of the NNCI Executive Team. Directs the Medical Affairs (Field Medical Affairs & Strategy, Medical & Scientific Affairs) and Clinical Development and Outcomes Research activities, Operations including Regulatory Affairs to accomplish agreed upon objectives, and functions as the Head of the NNCI Clinical Development Center. This role will represent NNCI CMR in both local and global forums.

 

RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to NNCI President (NNCI). It is accountable for managing multiple internal relationships in NN and serves as a member of the Executive Team. May sit on other boards and committees.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides strategic direction for the development, implementation and coordination of clinical, medical affairs and regulatory plans Provides general direction to CMR Management related to departmental goals and priorities Fosters cross-functional collaboration and facilitates communication within, and outside of CMR. Provide expert level support and guidance cross-functionally on issues related to CMR functions, as appropriate Develops a fully integrated Novo Nordisk clinical drug development organization in North America, adhering to the highest ethical and technical pharmaceutical industry standards Manages the employees of the department, interviewing and hiring new employees, carrying out performance appraisals, directing the training and development of staff and carrying out disciplinary actions in coordination with CMR Management Team Acts as a member of the Executive Team developing, recommending and implementing strategies, and action plans to achieve the goals of the company Participates in cross-functional teams, as appropriate, developing, recommending and implementing short and long-term strategic goals for the company Develops and manages departmental budget, monitoring progress throughout the year, reviewing and revising as appropriate Directs the provision of technical training and information regarding medical and scientific issues to field sales and head office staff Provide medical input to marketing plans, promotional campaigns, and new product launch platforms including the provision of medical input to the Brand Teams, product launch teams, LCM activities or other relevant bodies Provides overall guidance and strategic input on the Medical Education activities and scientific educational efforts in support of sponsored scientific events and learning programs as appropriate Maintains regular and frequent contact with key opinion leaders (KOLs) in cardiometabolic and other relevant therapeutic areas. Ensure strategic plans in place for engaging and appropriately communicating with the top national and global KOLs

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

20% overnight travel required.

 

DEVELOPMENT OF PEOPLE

Supervisory.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Medical Doctorate degree (MD, DO, PharmD or MBBS) and/or PhD with extensive knowledge of therapeutic areas of relevance to Novo Nordisk. Clinical patient care experience is strongly preferred Minimum 10 years of proven track record of success in Medical Affairs and/or clinical development. Minimum of 5 years in direct managerial capacity within the various CMR disciplines Executive Management experience strongly preferred Other requirements Strong scientific and clinical sophistication Extensive understanding of the healthcare landscape Business acumen Integrity and trust Managerial courage Demonstrated success in creating strategic direction/plans and proven ability to drive business results, strong business acumen required
