About you and this role
Dow’s Finance organization has an opening for a Vice President & Controller of the Consolidated Insurance Subsidiaries, located at the company’s world headquarters in Midland, Michigan.
As the Vice President & Controller of the Consolidated Insurance Subsidiaries you will lead a team of professionals to report and advise on financial matters, manage financial operations, and record and report the financial results of the Company’s insurance subsidiaries. You will report to the Global Director of Insurance, Portfolio Investments, Venture Capital & EWRM. The Dow insurance subsidiaries work closely with Dow Corporate Risk Management to help finance the Company’s fortuitous risks in addition to participating in the reinsurance markets. They are domiciled in multiple states and led by Dorinco Reinsurance Company holding an AM Best “A” rating with over $1.7B of admitted assets. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your significant leadership, accounting, and corporate finance experience to ensure the success of the company.
Ideal candidates will have substantive experience in the insurance industry with deep experience in Financial Reporting and Financial Statement preparation. Ideal candidates will also have an outstanding track record of performance in several other processes which allows a deeper understanding of the company’s consolidated structure, reporting lines, business segments, corporate and regional liquidity management and the multi-faceted effects of transacting in a global economy.

Responsibilities
In alignment with the vision of the Global Director of Insurance, lead a team of professionals in the following types of activities:
Financial Reporting: Lead accounting function and its preparation of regular reporting of US GAAP and Statutory Accounting financial statements.
Ensure the timely completion of monthly, quarterly and annual accounting close cycles for all insurance related financial results and their submission to management, the parent Company and regulatory bodies and attest to their accuracy.Interpret regulations, provide technical accounting guidance and ensure accounting policies / procedures are in accordance with US GAAP and Statutory reporting standards.Ensure the team evaluates emerging changes in the regulatory environment and accounting standards, and use in depth experience to predict their impact, preparing the team for optimal adoption and implementation.Establish, monitor, enforce and attest to the effectiveness of internal controls, including controls over the financial integrity of the insurance software system.Strategic Planning & Advisory: Lead and collaborate among the teams to:
Prepare, monitor and deliver budgets and financial forecasts of cash flows, earnings, and balance sheet measures to senior management.Interpret, prepare and present various measures of financial results to senior management, investment committees and insurance subsidiary boards.Advise on matters related to financial strength, profitability, appropriate levels of reserves, capital adequacy, surpluses, and metrics used by ratings agencies.Prepare and submit reports for review by credit rating agencies and review results of assessments for reasonableness.Insurance Subsidiary Financial Operations and Compliance:
Lead the Insurance subsidiary accounting operations activities, including all accounts receivable/payable and insurance / reinsurance settlements.Ensure compliance of Insurance operations with federal, state, and local legal requirements.Ensure compliance with regulatory rules applicable to Board requirements.Monitor requirements and ensure the team timely prepares and submits various regulatory reports, assessments / fees, transaction taxes, and license applications / renewals.Manage the insurance subsidiary software systems.Oversee and facilitate the Annual Audit of Financial Statements by external auditing firms and the Periodic Audit of Financial Statements by state regulators for each insurance subsidiary.Assist with the engagement of the independent actuary for the statement of actuarial opinion.Leadership:
Provide oversight of Insurance related activities by serving as Board Member/Director and Officer of 5 Insurance Subsidiaries.Collaborate with other members of the Finance team to align department strategy / direction with the overall goals of the company.Actively lead, develop, mentor, teach and train each member of the team, in all aspects of Insurance related accounting and financial analysis, finding opportunities to provide them appropriate exposure, and be seen as a role-model for all employees.Proactively evaluate Insurance practices for continuous improvement, and when opportunities arise, direct optimal solutions in infrastructure and procedures.Ensure the Insurance Team operates in complete compliance with all laws, regulations, delegations, controls, policies, and procedures.Qualifications
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant ranking.A minimum of 10 years of total experience with a focus in financial accounting and reporting positions, and/or other relevant experience.A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.Your Skills
CPA designation strongly preferred.A degree discipline in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.Master’s degree (MBA with a finance focus) is desirable.Financial Accounting - In depth understanding of accounting principles and financial statement interpretation, investment valuation and accounting, business/financial law, strong knowledge of internal control requirements and related policies and procedures.Systems Oriented - Proficient as a user of computer software in addition to Microsoft Office, SAP, Business Objects, and Access database.Communication - Strong written and verbal communication skills and negotiation skills.Project Management - Demonstrated track record of successful project management.Additional notes
