Vice President of Application Services

CHS operates 76 acute-care hospitals and more than 1,000 other sites of care, including physician practices, urgent care centers, freestanding emergency departments, occupational medicine clinics, imaging centers, cancer centers and ambulatory surgery centers. **Summary:** As the Vice President of Application Services, you will be a key leader in our digital and information technology organization, responsible for ensuring the seamless operation and support of our application solutions. You will lead a team of application leaders and specialists to deliver exceptional products and associated services to our customers and internal stakeholders. Additionally, you will take a leading role in the portfolio management and application rationalization process, optimizing our application portfolio to align with business objectives. Your role will encompass process optimization, team leadership, budgeting, forecasting, and driving customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and product/application portfolio efficiency. **Essential Duties and Responsibilities:** + Manage and maintain the Application portfolio at CHS and lead the application teams in closely engaging with the business owners to rationalize the existing portfolio, identify new functionality, develop compelling business cases, and formalize a multi-year Application strategy that meets CHS’s business needs and maximizes return on investment. Develop and execute a comprehensive product LCM and support strategy that aligns with the enterprise business objectives and organizational goals. + Demonstrate and drive thought leadership and partnership with the business. Work closely with business leaders and clinical informaticists across functions, regions, and markets. Share outside experiences and emerging trends, as well as innovative best practices around application development and solutions that will drive the creation of solution strategies that are closely integrated with CHS’s application architecture and operational transformation goals. + Oversee the delivery of application support services, ensuring prompt issue resolution, effective communication, and high customer satisfaction. Implement and maintain KPI’s and service level agreements (SLAs) to meet or exceed customer expectations. + Collaborate with Strategic Planning and the business to facilitate the application rationalization process and evaluate the current application portfolio. Identify opportunities to optimize, consolidate, or retire applications to reduce redundancy and improve operational efficiency. + Support the deployment of all EHR conversions across CHS facilities and ensure that overall deployment of application services initiatives is well planned, managed and delivered to meet expectations on functionality, timeliness, and cost. + Manage ongoing application vendor relationships and negotiate contracts to procure resources and technology solutions that meet CHS’s strategic objectives. Assure ongoing competitive vendor pricing, performance and outcomes by monitoring, benchmarking, and implementation of industry best practices, KPI’s and SLA’s. + Evaluate staff performance, provide feedback and coaching to best support and motivate the staff to achieve departmental as well as overall CHS goals. Support the CIO in building an innovative culture focusing on strengthening the organization’s internal and external brand and a Nashville employer of choice. + Develop and manage the budget for the product and application team, including staffing, tools, and resources. Create accurate forecasts for support-related expenses and manage expenses within budgetary constraints. Collaborate with Strategic Planning and our Business Partners in forecasting product and application costs for the enterprise. + Provide oversight and instill operational discipline in the delivery of application support services pertaining to new application releases, updates, patches, and application problem management. + Develop optionality and evaluate from both a strategic and a cost and benefit stand point various options in the non-web application development function. **Qualifications:** + Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or another related field required. + Advanced degree preferred. + Minimum of 10 (ten) years of progressively responsible business application support experience in a healthcare environment (preferably a Provider setting), and three (3) years of management/leadership experience required. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills, analytical skills, and project management skills + Proven ability to lead diverse teams and work effectively across all organizational levels + Experience developing and supporting mission critical applications optimized to run in the cloud or virtualized environments + Experience managing application portfolios across a diverse support environment (insourced, shared, outsourced) + Knowledge of system architecture, technical design, and system and software development technology **Physical Demands:** In order to successfully perform this job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, the following are outlined below: + The Employee is required to read, review, prepare and analyze written data and figures, using a PC or similar, and should possess visual acuity. + The Employee may be required to occasionally climb, push, stand, walk, reach, grasp, kneel, stoop, and/or perform repetitive motions. + The Employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions and; therefore, job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found within general office or administrative work.
