Vice President of Estimating - Power Delivery

Job Title: Vice President of Estimating - Primoris Power Delivery

Location: Orange County, CA (Travel to project sites required, including locations outside the state)

Position Proposition: Primoris Power Delivery is seeking a seasoned Expert Power Estimator to join our team as Vice President of Estimating. As part of the Power Delivery division of Primoris, the High-Voltage VP of Estimating will play a pivotal role in our power infrastructure projects. Responsible for accurately assessing the financial and logistical needs of complex electrical installations, this individual will ensure projects are successfully scoped and competitively positioned. This role is also responsible for overseeing the companies performing union utility work within Primoris.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Bidding & Estimating:

Oversee senior estimators and the estimating department to ensure all deadlines are met. Utilize Bid to Win in estimating projects and checking job performance; use it to determine bid accuracy versus crew productions. Thoroughly review and analyze RFPs, drawings, specifications, and contracts for high-voltage projects. Conduct site visits to assess conditions, identify obstacles, and determine material logistics. Accurately quantify material requirements and solicit competitive quotes from suppliers. Estimate labor hours based on historical data and project complexity. Coordinate with and evaluate bids from specialized subcontractors, negotiating pricing and scope. Develop comprehensive cost breakdowns, including all project-related expenses. Spot check, validate, and approve proposals created by the estimating team. Assemble and prepare detailed bid packages for client submission. Identify risks and incorporate contingency plans in estimates.

Beyond Estimating:

Facilitate a seamless transition from bidding to project execution with project managers and field personnel. Monitor and track project costs, comparing them against estimates. Stay updated on industry standards, safety regulations, and emerging technologies. Utilize estimating software and project management tools for enhanced accuracy.

Important Considerations:

Ensure safety protocols are prioritized in estimates to address high-voltage work hazards. Maintain precision in all estimations to prevent financial losses or delays. Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to secure successful project outcomes. Be prepared for extensive travel for site visits and meetings as required.

Qualification Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred. Preferred experience as a journeyman lineman in high-voltage environments or 20+ years of experience as an estimator in the powerline industry. Proven experience in estimation and cost analysis within the utilities sector. Experience with utility companies like Southern California Edison, Xcel Energy, Berkshire Hathaway, Entergy, Pacific Gas & Electric, or others across the United States is preferred. Strong leadership capabilities with a proven track record in team management. Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving abilities. Proficient in estimation software and tools. Strong communication skills for diverse audiences.

Educational & Professional Requirements:

Associates degree preferred; extensive field experience considered. Experience in line work (distribution, substation, transmission) is advantageous. Must be able to work both independently and within a team.

Salary range: $240k to 325k commensurate with skills and experience.
