Summary: Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (Roswell Park) is seeking a dynamic, skilled, and experienced executive to serve as its Vice President – Payer Relations. Roswell Park is a Public Benefit Corporation formed by New York State in 1999 that operates a $1.5 billion nationally ranked NCI- Comprehensive Cancer Center located in Buffalo, NY. The VP – Payer Relations will report to the Chief Financial Officer of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. This is an excellent opportunity to join a world-class organization.

With an annual operating budget of more than $1.5 billion, Roswell Park is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Upstate New York, consistently ranking among the NCI’s top recipients of research funding and has been recognized by US News & World Report – Best Hospitals for Cancer.

The Roswell Park clinical engine includes 157 dedicated cancer inpatient beds, over 300,000 outpatient visits annually, full surgical, diagnostic and treatment services and an oncology network that includes 15 locations across New York. The main campus spans 29 acres in downtown Buffalo and consists of 15 buildings housing a large surgical, inpatient, and outpatient operation operated by an employed faculty of nationally known oncology physicians, cutting edge research facilities as well as academic facilities for its accomplished education mission. In addition, the organization built a new medical research complex and renovated existing education and research space to support its future growth and expansion. The latest addition to the campus is the new 150,000 square foot Clinical Sciences Center, opened in 2017. Construction of a new 35,000 square foot Cancer Ambulatory/Diagnostic Center opened in September 2023, and a new 20 room clean room cell manufacturing facility recently opened and commenced operations, enabling Roswell Park to bring first-in-human clinical trial capabilities to Western New York for cellular therapy.

The VP – Payer Relations develops and oversees the execution of strategies for payer partnerships and delivering value-based care. In addition, the incumbent leads the development of relationships with Roswell Park’s payer partners and key employers, directing outreach activities to develop payer relationships and negotiating managed care contracts for Roswell Park, the Clinical Practice Plan and Roswell Park’s Captive PC.
Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
• Formulating and executing on a comprehensive payer strategy for all Roswell Park clinical business lines
• Leading the negotiations with all payer partners and other such entities
• In partnership with Roswell’s Chief Value Officer, oversee the development of novel, value-based reimbursement programs that capitalize on Roswell Park’s clinical and scientific expertise
• Leading the efforts to collect, quantify and articulate Roswell Park’s value, including but not limited to clinical outcomes, survival, and cost-savings initiatives
• Actively engage with executive, clinical and scientific leadership to identify and execute on strategies to maximize Roswell Park’s partnership with payers, employers and other groups utilizing Roswell Park’s services
• Advise on marketing and outreach strategies in furtherance of Roswell Park’s interests
• In partnership with Roswell’s Business Development leaders, proactively identify and assist in executing on strategies to expand Roswell Park’s reach
• Monitor health plan performance and works with health plan leadership to optimize the partnership
• In coordination with Roswell’s external affairs leaders, actively participate in policy advocacy and monitor relevant developments at the federal, state and local level

Salary starts at $313,000 commensurate with experience and including a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications:Required Education and Experience:
Ideal Experience Candidates for this role will possess:
- Master’s degree in business administration, public health or healthcare administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of eight (8) years of full-time relevant business experience in healthcare, insurance or physician practice management, including two (2) years of experience in a supervisory, administrative, managerial, consultative, or executive capacity, or
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public health or healthcare administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of ten (10) years of full-time relevant business experience in healthcare, insurance or physician practice management, including two (2) years of experience in a supervisory, administrative, managerial, consultative, or executive capacity.
- Ability to learn and use Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with financials and reimbursement methodologies of physician practice plans and hospitals.
- Experience in contract negotiations involving managed care contracts including case payment, capitation methodologies, and other alternative payment models (including risk sharing).  Superior verbal and written communication skills.  Excellent analytical skills.
