Vice President - Performance Excellence - Care Delivery System
GENERAL SUMMARY: The Vice President Performance Excellence - Care Delivery System, reporting to SVP, Transformation and Performance Excellence, is responsible for partnering with executive, regional and other care delivery system leaders to guide and support a portfolio of initiatives in support of patient quality and safety, consumer experience, operational efficiency, and workforce productivity to ensure operational and clinical performance achievement and optimization. The Vice President partners with, regional, entity, and functional senior leaders to effectively monitor, deploy, and align transformation and optimization initiatives that achieve results and improve effectiveness. Through overall responsibility for performance management coordination of activities in the Care Delivery System and through integrating and leading leadership system processes including performance reviews, initiative prioritization and collaborative decision making, the Vice President partners with the Care Delivery System leadership team to link and prioritize while building performance management and optimization and initiative execution skills across the care delivery system. The role will support the creation and evolution of an engaging change story for the why of the transformation and optimization including context, vision, and a call to action that resonates with individuals. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Results Driven and Problem Solving 1. Facilitates the care delivery system’s culture of performance excellence by applying evidence-based methods, internal and external better practices, and case studies of high performing organizations to fuel organizational performance. 2. Provides overall leadership and direction to the integration and alignment of operational plans across the care delivery system resulting in the achievement of performance expectations. Cascades organizational goals through operating system by developing and deploying accountability mechanisms. Evaluates progress toward initiative goals and objectives. Supports the performance review processes including system reviews and the daily management system in overall support of strategic plan deployment and performance achievement. 3. Manages in partnership with the leadership and consulting team the optimization and improvement projects required to support achievement of performance. Builds the people, process, and technology infrastructure to position the function as a trusted source of performance excellence support. Leads systematic yet agile approaches to prioritization and coordination of care delivery system, regional, entity and service line initiatives including execution of System strategy, optimization priorities, benefit monitoring, and resource allocation. Supports development of performance improvement and project management acumen throughout the organization through the development and deployment of a core curriculum and through ensuring that all staff coach others in order to spread their expertise. 4. Serves as a thought leader and guide on the approach for operating reviews and the daily management system. This leader collaborates with system, regional, site, and functional leaders to assure standardization without sacrificing customer intimacy in service to accomplishing system goals and strategies. Relationship Management 1. Collaborates with care delivery system executives to ensure integration and performance optimization efforts are effectively implemented and supported at all levels. Brings a consistent approach to change management and collaborates effectively with multiple operational functions like hospitals, ambulatory, service lines, clinical departments, medical group, human resources, finance, legal, and communications to assure effective and regular communications, training and support during performance optimizations and transformations. 2. Anticipates, identifies, and helps removes roadblocks including through partnership with external organizations to achieve outcomes. Highlights cross-cutting opportunities vs. silo thinking. Identifies skill gaps and capability needs. Talent Development 1. Develops a network of industry and out of industry experts to research and utilize innovations and best practices from other industries. 3. Partners on resourcing of efforts including internal and external consultant rationalization. Draws and develops talent from across the organization and assign the right resources to maximize project outcome and minimize project cost. 4. Mentors leaders throughout the organization and supports skill building through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes. 5. Builds and maintains employee engagement and motivation; ensures the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace. 6. Oversees development of planning, transformation, and business acumen throughout the organization EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: · Master's degree (M.A., M.S., M.B.A.) in Business, Engineering, Management, Healthcare Services Administration, Nursing, or another clinical field is preferred. A bachelor’s degree is required. · Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in management consulting, planning or operations within a leadership role required. · An emphasis in healthcare is preferred. Previous experience in major transformational efforts, project management and strategic planning and deployment is preferred.
