Inviting applications for the role of Vice President - Senior Counsel, Product and Artificial Intelligence

Genpact is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Counsel to join our dynamic legal team in Bangalore, India. This role focuses on reviewing new and existing products and technology being developed by the Company. The successful candidate will provide practical business-friendly legal guidance while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The ideal candidate should have a relevant year's experience in providing legal counsel to companies developing software and SaaS products.

The Senior Counsel should be fluent in end-to-end product development and have strong experience in technology, including open-source software and related licenses, technology platforms, artificial intelligence - including GenAI (“AI”) and intellectual property rights.

Responsibilities:

Review and analyze new products and technologies being developed by Genpact, providing clear recommendations to ensure compliance with legal requirements, Company standards, and applicable industry standards.

Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, engineering, and business teams, to understand product functionalities, identify potential legal risks, and provide practical business friendly solutions to mitigate those risks.

Manage overall IP and AI risk assessment process for proprietary product/platform development, including assessment of risk in line with regulations such as the EU AI Act.

Act as designated subject matter expert on negotiations for technology, software, and AI-related and terms in vendor and client contracts.

Conduct legal research to stay up to date with evolving regulations and industry practices related to software and technology offerings including AI and SaaS.

Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, licenses, and agreements related to product development, AI, intellectual property, and technology licensing.

Assess and manage legal risks associated with marketing and sales activities for new and existing products and solutions.

Analyze and provide clear recommendations to internal stakeholders on legal matters related to AI, software, and technology development, including privacy, data protection, intellectual property, and licensing issues.

Collaborate with external legal counsel, as needed, to support the legal needs of the Company.

Stay informed about relevant legal and regulatory developments that may impact Genpact's product portfolio and other regulations relating to AI and technology.

Provide legal training and guidance to internal teams on best practices and compliance requirements.

Assist in the development and improvement of legal processes and internal policies related to product development and other project work as may be assigned.

Qualifications we seek in you

Minimum Qualifications

Law graduate (LLB) / Bachelor of Laws degree, Masters in law a plus.

Relevant years post qualification experience providing legal guidance to companies developing software and SaaS products with technical acumen of software development lifecycle. Candidate with demonstrated experience with common development programs, AI, IoT, Cloud, and application security preferred.

Strong understanding of intellectual property, licensing, and technology-related legal issues. Practical knowledge of issues such as fair use, derivative works, authorship, infringement, licensing principles, risk scenarios in software industry etc.

Extensive knowledge of applicable laws and regulations in the software and technology product space, including AI, intellectual property, privacy and data protection laws.

Experience with business process outsourcing and digital transformation is a plus, but not required. However, candidate must be able to demonstrate/show examples of solutions provided to complex techno- legal issues.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills

Excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills, with ability to clearly and effectively communicate legal requirements to stakeholders, including ability to clearly communicate complex legal issues in a simple business friendly way.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on providing good client experience.

Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality work product. Good organizational skills a must.

Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.

Strong commitment to ethical conduct and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
