**Role Summary:**
The **Vice President (VP) / Senior Vice President (SVP) of Engineering** is a visionary technical leader responsible for driving the development and innovation of Outdoor Power Equipment. With a deep background in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the VP/SVP will guide and mentor a team of experts across various engineering disciplines, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic goals. This leader will oversee the creation and management of a Technology Roadmap that aligns with the overall New Product Development (NPD) roadmap, ensuring successful product launches and seamless execution across all teams. The VP/SVP will be instrumental in driving groundbreaking technologies, overseeing budgets, schedules, and fostering cross-functional collaboration to meet key business objectives.
**Essential Responsibilities:**
+ Lead and inspire the engineering team, providing strategic direction, mentoring, and career growth opportunities for individual team members.
+ Foster a culture of innovation by encouraging the team to take risks and explore new ideas, ensuring continuous improvement in product development.
+ Collaborate closely with Brand Marketing and Product Development teams to develop a comprehensive Technology Roadmap that aligns with market demands and user needs.
+ Spearhead the development of breakthrough technologies that will drive the next generation of products, ensuring long-term success and competitiveness.
+ Oversee the integration of pre-development phases with execution teams, ensuring smooth transitions and optimal product execution.
+ Continuously refine the NPD process, adapting it to the evolving business needs and improving efficiency in product development.
+ Manage the delivery of product and sub-assembly cost estimates, providing accurate financial justification and supporting budget forecasting.
+ Ensure the R&D budget is maintained and forecast future spending to ensure lean and efficient resource allocation.
+ Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies in the outdoor power equipment and consumer product industries, identifying new opportunities for innovation.
+ Establish and nurture relationships with technical counterparts across other business units and strategic suppliers to foster collaboration and share technological advancements.
+ Lead the integration of supplier innovations in key areas (e.g., motors, pcb’s, batteries, power electronics, and plastics), ensuring cutting-edge solutions for future products.
**Qualifications/Requirements:**
+ 10+ years of engineering experience, with a proven track record in product development.
+ 5+ years of experience in project management, from concept through to product launch.
+ 5+ years of leadership experience in fast-paced, high-growth product development environments.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field. Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
+ Strong technical expertise in mechanical systems (airflow, mechanisms, motors, pumps, fluid handling, plastics, and materials) within complex consumer appliances.
+ Solid understanding of electrical and electronic systems (PCBs, battery technology, control circuits, sensors), with the ability to challenge and guide an experienced electronics team.
+ Excellent communicator with the ability to present complex technical ideas to diverse audiences and gain buy-in for innovation initiatives.
+ Demonstrated experience in working within and navigating a complex patent environment.
+ A proven track record of innovation, with assigned patents and marketable products.
+ Strong ability to harness the team's creativity and transform it into actionable design solutions that meet performance, cost, and schedule goals.
+ Skilled in multi-tasking and managing multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
+ Strong analytical and hands-on experience in prototyping, testing, and evaluation.
+ Proficient with CAD, FEA, CFD, noise abatement, and other relevant engineering tools.
+ Familiar with appliance regulatory and testing standards (e.g., UL, CEC, ASTM, IEC, CE, RoHS).
+ Ability to develop, implement, and enforce effective strategies, policies, and procedures.
+ Willingness to travel domestically (3-4 times per year) and internationally (2-3 times per year, up to 3 weeks at a time).
