Job Overview
MOVA is seeking mission-driven, trauma-informed advocates with direct service or social service experience to join our Victim Compensation team. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Victim Compensation, Eligibility and Outreach Specialists review applications for eligibility from victims of violent crime seeking compensation for expenses directly related to the crime according to the Massachusetts General Laws c. 258C and the related regulations. Specialists help victims understand their rights as crime victims, eligibility requirements for Victim Compensation, explain what expenses may be eligible for compensation, and assess additional resources that may be available to assist them. Specialists also serve as liaisons to the victim services field including building relationships, conducting outreach and training, and providing information and assistance to crime victims and their families.Eligibility and Outreach Specialists must be advocacy-oriented, effective communicators, and process driven and have experience building and maintaining trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders, serving as liaisons, and providing exceptional customer service.

Provide advocacy to ensure equitable access to claimants seeking victims’ compensationUsing the case management system, review and confirm eligibility of applications filed for Victim Compensation under M.G.L. c. 258CResearch and outreach to various law enforcement and protective service agencies and courts for information needed to assess eligibilityCommunicate with victims regarding the status of their application and provide assistance, advocacy, and referrals to other victim servicesAssist in responding to calls and people walking into MOVA’s office seeking assistance and information Serve as MOVA’s liaison to law enforcement agencies, victim service providers, and community programs, building strong relationshipsConduct statewide outreach and training for various agencies and organizations regarding Victim CompensationCollaborate with the Victim Services team to connect victims and survivors to additional resources and referralsServe as a resource to the community in matters related to victim rights and servicesAdditional Information
