Position classification Onsite -- Job duties and expectations require employee to be regularly scheduled onsite. + Description + Benefits + Questions What Success Looks Like In This Job Victim Advocate Specialists deliver statutorily mandated and supportive services to victims and witnesses of crime throughout the prosecution of criminal cases. The position provides direct services to victims and witnesses of crime that include offering information about victim’s rights, critical event notification, emotional support, information and referral assistance to community-based victim service agencies, and other criminal justice related services that support witnesses and aid victims of crime in their efforts towards recovery. Victim Advocate Specialists support the mission of the District Attorney’s Office to protect the community and make the criminal justice system better. Examples of Duties for Success Victim Services Specialist: + Be available during your scheduled on-call shifts to respond on-scene or by phone to assist victims and/or witnesses of criminal and critical incidents. + Provide additional support during high-demand periods that exceed typical on-call schedule coverage, including but not limited to managing multiple simultaneous service calls, large-scale events, staff emergencies, or assisting other agencies upon request. + Daily review of incident reports to determine which cases fall under the purview of the Victims’ Rights Act. + Conduct follow-up services for incident reports that fall under the Victims’ Rights Act (VRA). These services include, but are not limited to: contacting victims by phone or email, addressing case-related questions and victim/witness concerns, providing resources and referrals, sending victims’ rights information and related materials, handling returned mail, assisting with crime victim compensation applications, and addressing safety concerns. Additionally, possibly coordinating and facilitating meetings as needed to ensure victims receive appropriate support and a clear understanding of their rights. Ensuring victims have a clear explanation of the Victims' Rights Act and continue to offer regular updates on the status of investigations and criminal proceedings + Upon completion of follow-up services, information describing resources provided, should be entered into the client management system. + Log daily activities and follow-up work including start time and end time of each service completed, a case number for reference, and details of actions taken. + Serve as a liaison, fostering relationships between victims, witnesses, law enforcement, prosecutors, social services, the courts, and other relevant agencies the VSU collaborates with. + Maintain confidentiality of all case work and contact with victim/witnesses from outside entities to ensure the integrity of case investigations. + Incident reports and other sensitive documents should be destroyed immediately per office guidelines to maintain continued confidentiality of client information + Transport children, victims, and/or witnesses when appropriate. + Attend Detective Division, other agency, and some community-based meetings as scheduled + Assist in planning, coordinating, and attending VSU-related community events, training sessions, and educational programs. + Other duties as assigned Grants Related Duties: + May be assigned grant-related administrative tasks such as compiling statistical data. To be successful, our ideal candidate should have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: + Professional Spanish proficiency or fluency preferred and are eligible to earn incentive based on use. + Ability to maintain a calm demeanor with victims/witnesses and with staff. + Ability to provide warmth and human connection to victims and witnesses. + Ability to work within a fast-paced environment with flexibility; meets deadlines and accept direction on given assignments. + Ability to establish and fulfill goals and objectives. + Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in an environment of changing and/or multiple priorities. + Ability to work effectively and in a timely manner when faced with a high volume of work, multiple deadlines, and frequent interruptions. + Ability to manage staff caseload and work assignments. + Ability to manage sensitive information in a confidential and professional manner and to handle sensitive situations with professionalism, tact, and diplomacy. + Possesses strong organizational skill, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and can prioritize and manage multiple projects. + Working knowledge of Colorado criminal justice system procedures + Ability to maintain social, ethical, and organizational standards in job-related activities in the office and within the community. + Demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, as well as data entry, basic recordkeeping and math skills. Note: This is a regular full-time position for 40 hrs per week. Full or partial funding for this position is subject to the availability of grant funds. Positions funded? by external grants?may be subject to termination if the grant funding ceases. Positions funded by external grants will be reviewed by the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office for viability in the absence of grant funds.? Qualifications for Success + Equivalent experience that includes1 yearof work experience providing direct services to victims of crime. Additional consideration will be given for professional experience providing victim advocacy within a criminal justice victim services program. + Valid Colorado Driver’s License + Excellent oral and written communication skills + Be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and able to respond within one hour to call-outs. + High School Diploma or GED + Prior experience as a Victim Services Specialist with preferred experience in Law Enforcement or Court Related plus 40-hour Victim Service Training More Qualifications for Success •Knowledge of computers and office equipment •Excellent oral and written communication skills •Provide direct crisis interventions with victims of crime •Maintain a high level of confidentiality beyond the normal scope of employment.
