Summary Statement
Victim Support Coordinator provides crisis intervention and safety planning for victims of domestic violence. Educates victims about the criminal justice system, their rights within the system, and how to exercise those rights. Maintains data for reporting purposes. Works independently and reports regularly to supervisor.
Essential Functions
+ Communicates with victims of misdemeanor domestic violence, injury to child, violation of protection orders, violation of no contact orders, and stalking cases prior to arraignment of offender. Provides support and guidance, safety planning, and crisis intervention. Provides resource referral for medical, psychological, financial, housing, legal, and employment assistance. Educates victims of crime regarding the criminal justice system, advocacy, victims' rights, and opportunities to exercise their statutory and Constitutional rights.
+ Researches and compiles filed police reports related to arrested misdemeanor domestic violence, injury to child, violation of protection order, violation of no contact order and stalking cases. Maintains statistical data for reporting purposes.
+ Coordinates and attends meetings with victims and prosecutors as criminal justice advocate. Meets with victim witness coordinators from other agencies for training and to debrief on cases.

Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Associates degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or a related field and two years of experience in crisis intervention and/or working with victims of trauma or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Functional knowledge of
+ the objectives of victim-witness programs and criminal justice processes
+ applied sociology and psychology
+ public contact techniques
+ data collection and reporting.
Ability to:
+ establish and maintain rapport with a wide range of personality types and individuals, including children
+ communicate effectively with individuals from all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
+ be self-motivated and self-directed
+ problem solve quickly and creatively without close supervision
+ display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public, and other organizations
+ communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance
+ complete assignments in a timely fashion
+ understand and comply with all rules, policies, and regulations
+ operate a computer with demonstrated proficiency using contemporary databases, word processing, and spreadsheet software applications
+ maintain prompt and regular attendance
+ perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field; professional credentials as an advocate with the National Center for Victim Assistance (NOVA) or the ability and desire to become credentialed.
Licensing And Other Requirements
Valid driver's license.

City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation
