The District Attorney’s Office is hiring a Victim Witness Advocate to support victims of crime that are navigating the criminal justice system.

The Victim Witness Assistance Center program is crafted to reduce the trauma and insensitive treatment that victims and witnesses may experience in the wake of a crime.
The ideal candidate is proficient in the use of digital technology. Case management, evidence and information exchange is digital. Basic knowledge of legal terminology and procedures will help you be successful in this role.
This position will be based out of our Nevada City office and will support caseloads in both Truckee and Nevada City, with travel to Truckee once per week.
As a Victim Witness Advocate you will:
+ Provide services to ensure that victims and witnesses are not further victimized.
+ Aid and supports crime victims throughout the criminal justice process.
+ Provide immediate and ongoing emotional and material support by offering resources and victim-related information.
+ Enable victims to cope with the trauma associated with the crime and its after effects.
+ Provide case updates, referrals to resources, restitution, court accompaniment and direct services.
Background Investigation: Qualified candidates will be subject to an extensive background investigation.

Education and Experience Required
COPIES OF DEGREES, TRANSCRIPTS, CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES LISTED AS REQUIRED IN THIS SECTION MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE APPLICATION
Equivalent to college level course work in social science, behavioral science, criminology, administration of justice or a closely related field from an accredited college or university ANDequivalent to one year of work experience involving processes in the criminal justice or judicial system which include the provision of victim services, peer counseling or social service work.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a valid California driver's license within 30 days of hire.
Must successfully complete the required forty-hour training curriculum for Victim Advocates within first year of full time employment, and obtain the appropriate victim advocate certification.

Retirement
The County is a member of the CalPERS retirement system and also provides the opportunity for voluntary contributions to a 457 deferred compensation account through Nationwide by way of pre-tax and Roth payroll deductions.
