Video Monitor Technician

The Video Monitor Technician is responsible for the direct continuous visualization of the rhythm surveillance monitoring system for patients with a compromised cognitive condition. In addition, the video monitor technician is responsible for the documentation and communication of surveillance activities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience:
+ High School Diploma or equivalent required. Some healthcare terminology and coursework preferred.
+ Direct patient care experience in a clinical setting is required .
+ Certification: BLS preferred
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
+ VM trained techs are assigned 4 to 8 hour shifts in the VM room.
+ To avoid distractions, Cell phones are not to be used in the VM room. Cell phones will be placed in the designated area prior to starting VM shift and can be retrieved upon completion of shift or with breaks taken out of the VM room. The VM room has a designated phone for contacting nursing units and supervision.
+ Receives report from RN or Supervisor regarding patient to be monitored.
+ Enters patient to assigned video camera for continuous visual monitoring.
+ Ensures that patient information is entered and set into software/system correctly, i.e.: note fields accurate, language is set, etc.
+ Introduce self to patient through the monitor audio speaker upon initiation and every shift (if appropriate)
+ Records initiation of continuous visual monitoring on patient log and the reason for continuous visual monitoring.
+ Monitors patients and attempts to verbally redirect patient, encouraging them to stay in the bed, through 2-way audio.
+ Calls nurse/nursing staff directly on telephone if an issue arises with the patient that needs staff response.
+ Activates STAT Alert alarm when a patient is not following direction and/or situation is emergent
+ Record interventions on the Video Monitoring Intervention log:
+ Any verbal patient cueing / redirection and response
+ Calls to the nurse/nursing staff directly. Records patient need/request.
+ Document patient’s activities at least every four hours on the video monitoring log.
+ Video Monitoring Intervention Log will be scanned to Nursing Units (with patients currently on monitor) prior to end of shift at 0600 – 1400 – 2200.
+ Initiates electronic privacy curtain upon request from clinical staff and sets timer for estimated time privacy is needed per clinical staff.
+ Places status of “patient out of room” (‘POOR’) and follows up with expected return times.
+ Assists Supervisor in the process of identifying patients that could potentially have continuous visual monitoring discontinued in the event another patient has a higher need.
+ Reports off to oncoming staff regarding patient and their status; includes notable behaviors to be watching for with the patient, and any other notes in relation to the patient.
+ Notifies the Supervisor of number of monitors in use. Provides/Scans the list of patients on Video Monitor in Use Log, the Intervention Logs for the shift and the Wait List of Requests to video monitor patient to the Nursing Supervisor.
+ Notify the RN and Nurse Manager/Supervisor and document on the Video Monitor Intervention Log and Video Monitor in Use Log if patient meets any of the exclusion criteria.
+ Privacy Note: The patient’s right for privacy should be respected at all times. The room/bed surveillance should be placed into privacy mode during such activities including, but not limited to, personal hygiene and physician/provider request during rounds and or examination. Communication must occur between caregiver and Video Monitor Tech regarding privacy time for patient care (i.e. bathing, bathroom needs, etc.).

Salary Range: $15.92-20.87 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
