Village Coordinator
 

Position Summary:

Responsible for support and supervision of the cabin counselor team, camper behavior management, and all camp programming activities. Maintain inventory of program supplies and equipment. Work closely with Program Coordinators, the Director of Camp Programs, and occasionally with the Executive Director.  Part of the Camp Whitcomb/Mason Pathways team.

 Responsibilities:

Provide support and leadership to develop and deliver resident camp programming that is appropriate for the age and ability of the campers and utilize the camp’s resources.Write lesson plans that meet camp outcomes and the abilities of the campers to develop them into leaders.  Implement a variety of age and ability-appropriate activities.  Implement and administer outcome survey for the Summer Camp Program.Work with campers who need behavior management plans and communicate camper challenges with appropriate counseling staff and full-time staff.Ensure camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures.Assist in the implementation of staff training.  Complete bi-weekly observation forms with Cabin Counselors.Provide day-to-day guidance, support, and supervision to cabin counselors. Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in the main camp.Responsible for observing hazards or enhancements in the natural environment in the main camp and alerting other appropriate staff.Ensure that the program equipment and supplies are inventoried, and steps are taken to replace them in a timely manner.Conduct a daily check of the area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.Responsible for programming and assisting in the facilitation of age-appropriate village and all-camp activities.Must participate in required training by the Club, County, State, and/or funder.Work cooperatively with all staff to ensure quality programming.Understand and follow transportation policies and procedures while riding transportation to and from Camp Whitcomb/Mason with members and other staff.Display excellent customer service to all people while on duty.Respond to emergencies as designated by the Camp Whitcomb/Mason Emergency Action Plan.Understands and follows the BGCGM Member Care Manual and Camp Handbook policies and procedures.Provide appropriate guidance and direction through supportive relationships with members.

Requirements:

High School Diploma required. Some college or BS degree in an environmental or education field is preferred.  2-3 years of experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds.

Skills:

Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License with good driving record and state-required automobile insurance minimums preferred.Current American Red Cross Community First Aid/CPR certification required, or ability to obtain.Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.Supervisory experience preferred.

Some physical requirements of this position could be endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs; willing to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities; and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, etc.
