The Patient Safety Attendant I (PSA) provides constant observation to assigned patients via a continuous visual monitoring (CVM) system to ensure a safe and comfortable environment. This role involves assisting with indirect patient care, promoting and protecting patient safety, and communicating with patients and healthcare team members remotely from our Centralized Virtual Patient Monitoring Center in Charlestown. The Patient Safety Attendant must maintain patient confidentiality at all times and comply with safety regulations and hospital policies. **Job Description:** **Primary Responsibilities** **:** **_Observation and Safety:_** **Maintains virtual observation of the patient using a CVM platform to promote a safe environment.** **Monitors patients for harmful or violent behaviors remotely to reduce harm to self or others.** **Alerts the nurse of any changes in patient behavior or condition.** **Ensures patient coverage and maintains vigilance throughout the shift.** **_Communication:_** **Communicates effectively with patients and healthcare team members.** **Receives and relays nursing handoffs at the beginning of shifts regarding patient observations.** **Documents patient observations and any interventions as required.** **Uses** **interpreter/translation** **services for patients with limited English proficiency when needed.** **_Technology Use:_** **Operates the CVM system to monitor patients effectively.** **Ensures proper functioning of CVM equipment and reports any technical issues promptly.** **Utilizes electronic health records (EHR) systems for documentation and communication.** **_Training and Competency:_** **Completes required orientation and annual training.** **Education/Experience Required** **:** **High school diploma or GED required.** **Basic familiarity with computers and ability to navigate web-based applications.** **Enrollment in a Health Sciences program is preferred.** **Related experience in healthcare or home care preferred.** **Prior experience using a telemonitoring system is desirable, but not a requirement.** **Physical/Environmental** **Requirements** **:** **Ability to sit for extended periods while monitoring patients.** **Frequent use of hearing, sight, and speech for effective patient observation and communication.** **Low physical demands but high mental engagement required to maintain patient safety.** **Skills** **:** **Ability to make decisions based on specific instructions and standard practices.** **Ability to address routine problems by following clear directions.** **Effective written and oral communication skills.** **Ability to interact respectfully with other employees and patients remotely.** **Ability to provide a high level of customer service and remain calm in stressful situations.** **Additional Information** **:** **This job requires adherence to safety and other laws, rules, and regulations set forth by regulatory and governmental agencies.** **The role involves frequent virtual interaction with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, patient families, and other internal and external constituents.** **Exposure Risk: Low exposure risk to bodily fluids.** **Sensory Requirements: Close work (paperwork, visual** **examination), Monitor** **Use, Visual clarity < Three** **feet, Conversation, Monitoring** **Equipment, Telephone.** **Employees in this job must be competent to observe and provide communication to the following age groups: Young adult through geriatric.** **As a health care organization, we have a responsibility to do everything in our power to care for and protect our patients, our colleagues and our communities.
