**Job Description:**
Fairfield University, Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies, invites applications for a full-time non-tenure-track visiting public health faculty position beginning in Fall 2025. The Egan School seeks to inspire students to become leaders across social and healthcare environments who improve health outcomes for all, inclusive of underserved or vulnerable populations. The Egan School’s Department of Public Health offers an on-ground generalist-track Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) and a 45-credit online generalist-track Master of Public Health (MPH). The BSPH is accredited by the Council on Education in Public Health (CEPH) and the online MPH, which launched in Fall 2022, is pursing CEPH accreditation.
The normal teaching load for visiting faculty is 12 credits each semester (4 courses). For this position, in lieu of 3 credits of teaching load per semester, the faculty member will serve as the Applied Practice Experiences (APE) and Outreach Coordinator. In this role, the faculty member will work closely with students, faculty, and community stakeholders to ensure that students receive effective practical training in our programs. Responsibilities will include overseeing APEs for undergraduate and graduate programs, coordinating outreach to APE sites, managing relationships with APE preceptors, and managing affiliation agreements with APE sites. While the faculty member will largely teach in the on-ground BS program, there may be opportunities to teach online MPH courses as well or to oversee MPH capstone projects.
Key Responsibilities will include:
APE Coordination:
+ Oversee the Applied Practice Experiences (internships, practicum, and public health experience hours) for undergraduate and graduate students, both on-campus and online.
+ Serve as the primary contact for current and prospective APE sites, maintaining communication with preceptors and students throughout placements.
+ Guide students in identifying and securing APE opportunities, reviewing and approving internship work plans, and evaluating both student and preceptor feedback.
+ Continually seek and establish new internship opportunities at local, state, and national levels.
+ Collaborate with Program Directors to refine APE processes and systems in alignment with workforce needs and accreditation standards.
+ Monitor students' progress toward APE completion and notify the team of any issues.
+ Facilitate internship site agreements and handle related legal concerns.
+ Maintain APE-related information, manage data collection for accreditation, and prepare reports for Program Directors and other oversight committees.
+ Represent the college in public health events and community engagements, fostering connections with alumni and community partners.
+ Identify and pursue new community engagement opportunities and applied practice experiences for students.
+ Promote public health programs at local, regional, and national events as needed.
Instruction and Advising:
+ Teach the Applied Practice Experience and Professionalism courses, including managing eLearning sites, updating syllabi, enforcing course policies, grading, and finalizing grades.
+ Ensure students meet program competencies and accreditation requirements, provide additional support where needed, and review and approve final portfolio work products.
+ Teach 3 courses each semester in a wide range of public health topics, including but not limited to Epidemiology, Program Planning and Evaluation, and Biological Foundations of Public Health.
+ Provide academic and career advising to undergraduate Public Health majors.
