The Siena College Criminal Justice Studies Interdisciplinary Program (CRJS) is seeking a 1-year full-time Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning Fall of 2025, to teach various courses in the CRJS curriculum. This may include, but is not limited to, the following: Intro to CRJS, Restorative Justice, Prosecution and Courts, Wrongful Conviction, Intro to Forensic Science, and Criminalistics. Regardless of the particular course, students in this restorative justice-focused major, will be introduced to the concept of "doing justice" and will reflect on whether our laws, policies and practices mete out justice for all, or whether they are applied in a discriminatory fashion. Attention will be paid to whether and how certain reforms could render the system more just for all. Most courses in the curriculum feature interactive pedagogical methods to enable students to empathize with, and consider meaningful solutions for, those impacted by the criminal justice system. The Franciscan values of heritage, diversity, and above all, social justice, echo throughout the courses in this Program, via the lectures, readings and interpersonal connections and experiences offered.
Class sizes: Generally, about 30 students
Course format: in-person
Class Meeting times: TBD, but 3 hrs. per week per 3 credit courses; 4 hours per 4 credit courses
Annual Salary:
$78,960 for visiting assistant professor (requires terminal degree)
$60,120 for visiting instructor (requires master's level degree)
The hiring salary above represents the College's good faith estimate at the time of posting in compliance with the Albany County Salary Transparency Law.
Job Requirements:
Applicants must possess a Master's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, Restorative Justice, Forensic Science or a related field; PhD, ABD or JD preferred. Prior college teaching experience desired.
A background screening will be required.
