The History Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a one-year position with the possibility of a one-year renewal at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor of History to begin July 1, 2025. We are looking for a scholar of African American history (period and specialization open), including candidates whose research focuses on diasporic African communities in the US or North America, or the Caribbean, or related histories of colonialism, inequality, race/racism, and civil rights. The new hire will be expected to teach five courses annually, lower- and upper-level history courses in his or her area of specialization, and to provide a survey of African American history. The expected 9-month base salary range for this position is $76,000 to $78,500. A Ph.D. in History, Africana Studies, or related fields is required, but ABDs very close to completing their dissertation at the time of application may be considered. We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with diverse student populations.
