TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. For more information, please visit https://www.tamiu.edu/ . This is a non-tenure track visiting 1-year position with the potential for renewal depending on job performance and evaluation. Primary duties will include coaching and mentoring undergraduate college music students in the mariachi ensemble(s); planning and maintaining an active concert agenda for TAMIU Mariachi Internacional and planning the Mariachi Festival; teaching music classes depending on the candidate's qualifications and; providing service to the department, college, and university. Duties also include supervising music students with community projects as needed; recruiting students for the mariachi program and music programs; other duties as assigned by the Department Chair as needed. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. The Department of Fine and Performing Arts is the cultural hub for the Laredo community, housing the disciplines of Visual Art, Dance, Music, and Theater. Required Qualifications The successful candidate must hold a earned Master's degree in Music with an emphasis on mariachi education. Candidate must be active as a mariachi musician with at least five years' experience in coaching. Candidate must have the ability to coach and mentor undergraduate college music students in the mariachi ensemble(s); the ability to collaborate with colleagues in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, as well as the general public; and the ability to interact effectively and professionally with students and the general public. We strongly encourage candidates with prior experience teaching at a university and in building mariachi programs. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.
