Recruitment/Posting Title Visiting Scholar in Jewish Studies Book Arts and Material Culture Department SAS-Ctr - Study of Jewish Life Salary Commensurate With Experience Benefits Posting Summary The Allen and Joan Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life at Rutgers University-New Brunswick invites applications for a Visiting Scholar for the 2025-2026 academic year.for a one-semester (fall or spring) post-doctoral appointment. Preference will be given to a scholar whose work intersects with visual and material culture, book history, and book arts (e.g., typography; bookbinding; papermaking, printing, scribal arts—broadly conceived—in Jewish life. The scholar will pursue their own research while at Rutgers but will also be involved with the Rutgers Initiative for the Book https://sites.rutgers.edu/ru-book-initiative/, bringing Jewish languages and print culture in dialogue with the Initiative’s mission.The post-doctoral scholar’s responsibilities may include, inter alia, teaching a 3-session virtual mini-course, leading in-person workshops for students on the newly launched Scarlet Letterpress (https://sites.rutgers.edu/ru-book-initiative/scarlet-letter-press/), giving a faculty seminar, and participating in other forums to contribute to the academic life of the Bildner Center, the department of Jewish Studies, and the Rutgers Initiative for the Book. The scholar is expected to be in residence in the university area and to be actively engaged in the intellectual culture and outreach programs of the Bildner Center and the Jewish Studies Department.
