Job Summary:
Manages the NEX Visual Merchandising Program in one or more Exchange activities within close geographic proximity, implementation, utilization of retail/services areas relating to store layout, presentation, display, signing, and staff development
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates, implements, and maintains an effective and timely Visual Merchandising Program, which includes technical guidance on merchandise presentation, fixturing, display, and signing, for assigned retail, services, and Navy Lodge facilities. Adheres to and administers NES programs, standards, and policies.
- Works in conjunction with NEX management, District Manager, and facilities personnel to develop fixturing layouts, merchandise adjacencies, and sales floor allocations for Navy Exchange project initiatives and resets. Develops cost estimates, budget proposals, installation action plans, and related documentation when required.
- Works in conjunction with the NEX management team on fixture layouts and installation, merchandise adjacencies, allocation of space, and monitoring floor for enhanced store standards.
- Supervises, coordinates, directs, and trains visual merchandising personnel. Instructs and trains sales and stock associates in visual merchandising procedures and techniques, signing compliance and standards.
- Provides adequate staffing for all areas of responsibility. Sets performance standards and evaluates performance. Takes action necessary to maintain workforce discipline. Identifies and develops potential candidates for visual merchandising positions.
- Works with NEX management, District Manager and Headquarters to develop and plan budget requirements for visual merchandising payroll and expense budgets. Maintains and monitors budget expenditures.
- Coordinates and maintains a program for the maintenance and preservation of display materials, and the maintenance, reuse, relocation, and distribution of fixturing and minor equipment within Navy Exchange facilities.
- Utilizing proper resources and procurement procedures for visual merchandising, display, signing, and fixturing materials. Ensures compliance to and implementation of NEXCOM standards for these materials.
- Provides visual merchandising, merchandise presentation, fixturing, display, and signing assistance for store advisories, resets renovations, and new store openings when required.
- Aids and assists in coordination of Exchange promotional events supporting the NEX image such as the "Navy Family Store" to patron groups, wives clubs, etc. Support includes site selection, layout, design, and construction.
- Carries out and supports EEO policies and programs.
- Reports to the NEX General Manager.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
This position will cover Naval Air Station North Island and Naval Base Point Loma
Total of five years of experience as follows:
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Three years of experience which was gained in administrative, technical or other responsible work which enabled the applicant to gain a understanding of visual merchandising techniques and methods; and skill in the area of attractive display, merchandise presentation and in-store signing.
OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: 1 year of related academic study above the high school level may be substituted for 9 months of experience, up to a maximum of a 4 year bachelor's degree for 3 years of general experience
AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Two years of progressively responsible experience which provided a knowledge of visual merchandising techniques and practices; display and presentation of merchandise and signing; maintaining equipment and materials; layout and installation of fixtures; and providing technical assistance; or similar work which demonstrated the knowledge, skills and abilities of visual merchandising, display and in-store signing.
