At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As a VMware VDI Engineer, you will provide a stable, well performing enterprise VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure environment for the customer. You will also provide operations, maintenance, monitoring, and daily management of the VDI environment. This exciting opportunity will support private cloud and virtualized hosting services for an enterprise implementation for the customer. Hosting services are provided through two geodiverse, remotely managed data centers.
HOW A VMWARE VDI ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
Administer a VMware Private Cloud environment (servers and desktops) utilizing vCenter, VRA, Horizon View, and vROPS
Design, implement, and maintain a scalable VMware VDI environment
Monitor and optimize virtual desktop pools for performance
Respond to assigned tasks, incidents, and service requests within the customer’s service level agreement
Ensure compliance with change management and security procedures
Responsible for preventive and corrective maintenance of the VMware Private Cloud and Horizon VDI environment
Execute projects to upgrade and expand resources within the VMware Private Cloud environment.
Mentor junior team members regarding VMware VDI best practices, continuous learning, and innovation
Perform other duties as assigned to meet contract, company, and department goals and objectives
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Education and Experience:
MA/MS degree in computer science or a related discipline and 7 years of experience, or 10 of experience if no degree
5+ years of experience administering a server and/or VMware virtual desktop environment
Master's degree and 8 years of experience, a Bachelor's degree and 10 years of experience, or 14 years of experience if no degree.
VMware certification preferred Certified Professional – Desktop Management certification preferred
Required Technical Skills:
Extensive VMware Virtualization Experience - install, configure, and manage VMware environment, including Virtual Datacenters, Virtual Desktops, Host Clusters, High Availability (HA), Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS), Storage DRS, and other functions managed by vCenter
Experience with VMware vCenter/vSphere administration/management
Experience with VMware Horizon View administration/management.
Working experience of vRealize Operations (vROps) - use vROps for capacity planning and to troubleshoot performance issues.
Experience troubleshooting virtual storage connectivity and performance issues.
Experience with VMware vRA (vRealize Automation), now formally called VMware Aria Automation
Experience with VMware vROps (vRealize Operations), now formally called VMware Aria Operations
Office 365 application comfort and knowledge
Understanding of VMware ESXi and VMware NSX-T or V networking concepts with VDI profile services such as VMware DEM
Understanding of concepts like Directory Services and multi-site/domain configurations
Capacity tracking/planning and resource allocation
Experience with Software Defined Storage (vSAN and/or vVOLs), Data Centers (SDDC), and Network (NSX)
Experience developing, validating, and implementing configuration standards
Experience working with public cloud gateway services (preferred: AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure)
Experience with Windows 7/8/10
Hands on experience with on- and off-site backup and restore technologies (Veritas NetBackup)
Experience with documenting environments (Visio, etc…)
