All volunteers must understand, appreciate, and respect the diversity and cultural differences within our Cascadia community. It is expected that there is an awareness and sensitivity to the perspectives and perceptions to those we serve, as well as our colleagues. As Cascadia is Trauma-informed, volunteers must support a Trauma-Informed Care Environment. With the high prevalence of trauma among individuals receiving behavioral health services, it is required that the volunteer understand the effects of trauma on health, coping, and other aspects of the lives of those we serve. There are various settings and programs that Volunteers can participate with.
Volunteer activities may include:
Engaging with clients to provide companionship and alleviate social isolation, contributing to a sense of community.
Encourage and model appropriate participation in group activities, events, community outings, and/or other wellness activities including shared meals, music appreciation sessions, recreational activities, etc., creating opportunities for clients to connect and participate in enriching experiences.
Treat all clients, visitors, and team members with respect and dignity.
Assist clients in completing daily chores, community responsibilities, and skills-building activities.
Comply with the site safety policies and procedures.
Adhere to mandatory abuse reporting laws and HIPAA requirements
Report witnessed or reported allegations of client abuse or neglect immediately to the program manager or designated lead staff.
Maintain confidentiality of information as appropriate
Attend daily stand-up meetings when on site and monthly staff/volunteer meeting.
Coordinate with oncoming shift regarding resident concerns, building/program needs, and any relevant issues to ensure the smooth operation of the program.
Requirements
Our age requirement is 18 years or older.
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and clients.
Ability to maintain confidential information and records.
Ability to understand the need for and set professional boundaries.
Preferred qualifications include completion of coursework in a behavioral sciences field or lived experience of mental illness.
Guidelines for Volunteers:
Our clients are best served by consistent and reliable volunteers.
Volunteers must pass a DHS background check.
Volunteers must complete Orientation requirements.
