The Country Manager and Head of International Card Services (ICS), Nordics is responsible for the overall profitability and effectiveness of the American Express business in The Nordics (ie: Sweden, Norway and Finland). The role requires an experienced and commercially astute leader, who will provide leadership to ICS colleagues spanning marketing, product and business enablement roles. and across all functions. The successful candidate will hold overall responsibility for the P&L of the issuing business, have legal entity and regulatory oversight, and will represent the American Express brand externally to partners, customers and regulators.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ P&L responsibility for the proprietary issuing business and leadership of the colleagues and teams.
+ Set the vision and strategic direction for the business. Identify the right growth opportunities, product offerings, partnerships and technological investments for the Nordic business.
+ Hold overall accountability and oversight of legal entity and regulatory requirements and actions for the Nordic business, working in close partnership with Risk Management, Compliance, and external regulators.
+ Lead the Country Executive Team for The Nordics.
+ Collaborate with the Merchant and Network Services organization to achieve international coverage targets for merchant acceptance and perception of coverage.
+ Drive and maintain the American Express culture including exemplifying the Leadership Behaviors and Blue Box values.
+ Represent the Amex Brand in the market externally to regulators, financial institutions, customers, clients and to the media.
+ Foster a culture that embraces excellence, innovation, accountability, inclusiveness and diversity of thought where Colleagues feel they belong.
+ Establish an energetic, high-performing organization and culture for American Express Nordics, cultivating existing talent.
+ Governance and oversight in partnership with Country Executive Team, Market Compliance and GCO for licensing matters and branch matters including relevant board updates.
+ Build relationships and work effectively with the global American Express executive matrix to achieve strategic, financial and organizational objectives. Set clear performance expectations and establish accountability for results.
**Qualifications:**
+ Ability to shape a strategic vision, influence priorities, drive execution and manage profitability.
+ Highly effective communicator able to deliver clear messages at all levels to promote engagement and understanding.
+ Culturally sensitive with a high level of integrity and alignment to our Colleague Value Proposition, Leadership Behaviors and Blue Box Values.
+ Strong understanding of the financial drivers and levers for a business operating in The Nordics, and how to adapt to maintain profitability and drive growth.
+ Robust understanding of the local regulatory environment and a strong focus on risk balanced, safe and sound decision making.
+ Extensive experience leading in a multinational, matrixed organization working across organizational boundaries and influencing without authority.
+ Experienced senior leader able to make courageous decisions and drive followership through authentic and empathetic leadership.
+ Understanding of servicing and operations.
+ External communications and media experience.
+ Strong external network and followership within the finance and payments industry in The Nordics (preferred).
+ Cross LOB experience and understanding preferred, across issuing, Commercial or Merchant/Network.
+ Lending or partner management experience (preferred).
+ External candidates should have payments or issuing experience.
