***The VP Corporate Sustainability & Business Strategy is a HYBRID role that must be based in Northbrook/Chicago, USA or Ballerup/Copenhagen, Denmark***
The VP Corporate Sustainability & Business Strategy will be responsible for developing and implementing UL Solutions Sustainability Strategy. This strategy includes both corporate footprint, as well as business handprint strategies. This role requires a visionary leader with a deep understanding of sustainable practices and the ability to drive organizational change towards achieving sustainability goals.
The VP will work across various sectors and industries to lead, refine and grow our sustainability offerings, and will help drive growth of UL Solutions’ business through articulating market needs and developing sustainable services that supports the strategy.
The VP Corporate Sustainability & Business Strategy will partner across all segments of the UL Solutions business; leading and collaborating closely with internal teams and external stakeholders. This role will have a deep understanding of the global sustainability market trends, regulatory bodies/requirements and identify strategic opportunities for our businesses to develop sustainability services and solutions. This role will also require deep understanding and experience in plans and action to accomplish the company’s footprint sustainability goals.
+ Build, develop and articulate a unified business and corporate sustainability strategy that will win in the market, enhance our public policy, protect our license to operate and energize our talent.
+ Operationalize corporate ESG targets (including SBTi), meet metrics, and implement action plans to drive environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and corporate governance.
+ Develop business strategies to pursue and win new business opportunities that result in significant revenue and margin growth with target areas.
+ Establish/Implement short, mid-term and long range sustainability goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
+ Serve as a thought leader who broadens and deepens UL Solutions’ Sustainability brand and offerings by representing UL Solutions in public forums, conferences, sustainability events, publishing thought leadership materials, developing new service offerings, and driving high quality impactful solutions to address UL Solutions and our customers’ current and future needs.
+ Provide leadership and strategic guidance to senior management on sustainability issues, opportunities and provide recommendations on emerging risks and opportunities in sustainability.
+ Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate findings and recommendations; provide clear and concise information to support decision-making processes.
+ Analyze and optimize existing processes to reduce waste, energy consumption, water requirements and carbon emissions. Recommend process improvements to project teams and collaboratively work to implement improvements to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
+ Monitor trends in sustainability and ESG regulations, ensuring the company stays ahead of industry developments and maintains compliance.
+ Manage and actively work to improve performance on key sustainability ratings and rankings and enhance cross-functional collaboration on this work.
+ Lead and foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
+ Act as one of the key experts and point of contact for sustainability issues (legal, regulatory, finance, chief scientist, etc.)
+ Build effective working relationships with all stakeholders including regulatory bodies, government groups, civil society, local communities and the general public to enhance the company’s reputation and manage any risks.
+ Accountable for designing, delivering, and administering site/corporate sustainability strategies – determine resource requirements and the most appropriate method of accessing the necessary technical skills and expertise.
+ Assist in identification of potential environmental risks/impacts and develop action plans to mitigate.
+ Maintain compliance with corporate values, Code of Conduct, corporate sustainability, and help support corporate culture.
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Earth/Environmental/Sustainability/Sciences or related field preferred; experience commensurate with education may be considered.
+ 10+ years of related leadership experience in the area of sustainability leadership roles, preferably in a publicly traded organization
+ Proven track record in driving sustainability programs, environmental management and ESG reporting
+ Strong knowledge of sustainability trends, regulations, and best practices
+ In depth understanding of sustainability, ideally, across several industries, including existing relationships with current and prospective customers globally
+ Knowledge of the Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) business preferred
+ Business acumen to understand business risk and challenges and recognize key market opportunities
+ Experience with complex customer interactions, products, and services.
+ Global experience (culture, market, business practices, navigating, organizational changes, etc.).
+ Experience balancing priorities and driving to execution and delivering through others.
+ Must have strong communication, leadership and management skills, in addition to excellent customer service skills. Strong knowledge of sustainability theories and practices
+ Strong working knowledge of all sustainability and ESG regulatory mandates and requirements
+ Proven track record of delivering a sustainability strategy
+ Solid understanding site-based environmental experience
+ Must understand how the technical aspects influence the business aspects leading to good business decisions
+ Understanding the business implications of various strategies required for sustainability and how environmental processes/systems are tools to help facilitate the implementation of these effectively and efficiently
+ Effective in problem solving and managing conflict situations
+ Self-directed and self-motivated, demonstrating initiative to do more than is expected or required in the position with the desire and capability to progress within the organization
+ Identify, communicate, and manage change effectively and on the appropriate level
+ Proven track record of effective teamwork, organizational development and leadership
+ Effective in working in a matrix organization
Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career . The estimated salary range for this position is $207K to $277K and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 40% of the base salary and long term incentive plan with a target payout of 50% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (25 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
