We are seeking a talented individual to join our Data Governance team at Marsh. This role will be based in London. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
The VP Data Governance position reports into the SVP Data Governance within the office of the Chief Data Officer (“CDO”) and is part of Marsh’s Operations team. This is a new position for Marsh and is global in nature. The successful candidate will support the creation of a catalog of global data assets as well as the creation of dictionaries and taxonomies specific to key insurance domains. They will also support the data maturity assessment of various analytical and transactional systems and the establishment of best practices for KPIs, data origination and management, and data quality.
This is a hands-on position that requires exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) alongside a willingness to dig deep into system and business processes to create knowledge bases that will allow users and systems to operate more efficiently and derive more value from our data assets. This position involves extensive collaboration with a broad range of partners and stakeholders.
We will count on you to:
Create and maintain an inventory of all Marsh’s data assets with associated meta-data around descriptive attributes such as: sourcing, system processing information, ownership, and controls (e.g. compliance, regulatory and commercial). This involves working with a variety of subject matter experts to acquire information and then store and maintain this information in a structured environment.Create and maintain a glossary of key business terms associated with master data feeds, databases, systems and applications.Support the data maturity assessment of various operational (source) and analytical systems.Support the definition and implementation of a data literacy programSupport various partners (technology, business and internal MDS teams) in the creation and maintenance of governance requirements, processes and solutions.Work with business partners, data producers and consumers to engage, socialize and educate on governance topics, such as but not limited to: asset inventory, glossary, lineage, reference data, data quality, data usage, etc.Document system and data processes and identify opportunities for enhancement and/or risk mitigation.Work with other team members to identify and document synergies in approach with an eye to industry “best practices” around KPIs, data origination and management, and data quality.What you need to have:
A deep and abiding appreciation for all things data—its role, impact, challenges, and potential with an organization.A strong understanding of data governance concepts, and the ability to articulate and educate others on the importance and impact of these conceptsA strong willingness to learn a new domain--getting into its deepest details and being hands-on.The ability to ask probing questions without getting frustrated and without frustrating others (e.g. the domain and subject matter experts).Experience operating independently but also knowing when to ask for help.Ability to think creatively (vs. by role) to ensure completeness, accuracy, and utility.Experience within a similar role, ideally within the Insurance or Financial Services IndustriesExceptional written and verbal communication skills leveraging both traditional (e.g. Office; Teams) tools as well as software lifecycle tools (e.g. Jira)Ability and willingness to collaborate at all levels of a global organization to ensure the successful implementation of changeAn inquisitive mind that is not afraid to question current ways of thinkingWhat makes you stand out:
