Business Title: VP, ENTERPRISE ARCHITECTURE, GOVERNANCE AND AI 

 

Generic Position Summary 

As a member of the professional staff, contributes a high level of specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g., Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Inventory, Revenue Management, Information Resources, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support department and/or function objectives. Generally, works with considerable independence, developing operating plans and related operational processes for own department in alignment with broader business objectives.

Specific Job Summary  

 

Based at the Marriott Vacations Worldwide (MVW) Corporate Office in Orlando, FL, the Vice President (VP), Enterprise Architecture, Governance and AI provides technical leadership and is responsible for all business-technology vision, roadmaps, plans, and strategies for high-level technology design used throughout all MVW Vacation Ownership, Vacation Exchange, and Third-Party Management business lines.  The leadership role is responsible for identifying industry leading, transformative, robust, and reliable software through reusable architecture constructs that is valuable to external and internal customers as well as disruptive to competitors. As a senior member of the Enterprise Architecture (EA) team this position will support EA leadership to lead the Enterprise Architecture Governance function to facilitate and manage the deliverables and objectives such as change control, technology risks, technology selection and architecture framework in a matrix environment and provide technical thought leadership for Artificial Intelligence (AI).  

 

This IT leadership role is a high impact, high visibility position that is responsible for maximizing business value of technology by driving alignment between business strategy and IT capabilities, enhancing operational efficiency, lowering risk by understanding change implications, and improving technology decisions to bring effective change. The position also implements and maintains enterprise architecture tools to promote compliance with standards and processes.  This position will work with business partners, Global Technology (GT) leadership and service providers in technology planning and uses models and architectural frameworks to identify key relationships and gaps between business objectives, processes and IT systems. This role will need the ability to translate business strategy and process into logical architectural components and delivery of technology roadmaps that enhance operational efficiency and drive the enterprise technology governance.  

The role also advances digital business transformation efforts towards standardization and integration defining architecture vision and high-level technology designs based on proven architecture frameworks, principles, and standards for MVW initiatives. The position ensures the enterprise architecture is efficiently and effectively defined and that modern platforms and capabilities within the technology ecosystem (i.e. Digital Experience, API Management, Technology Compute Platform, etc.) are adopted and implemented. The position includes creating and maintaining standards, reference architectures, architecture blueprints, technology implementation patterns, frameworks for technology roadmaps, ideation, and integration.

Specific Expected Contributions  

 

Architecture Governance & Compliance 

Experienced in Enterprise Architect discipline with a strong focus on architecture governance, standards, and IT principles.  

Responsible for defining, implementing, and managing architecture frameworks that guide and support the organization’s strategic objectives.  

Ensure that IT investments and projects align with business goals, maximize efficiency, and comply with regulatory and industry standards.  

Lead cross-functional teams to establish and enforce governance processes that balance innovation with operational stability. 

Develop and enforce architecture governance frameworks to ensure alignment with business goals and IT strategies. 

Establish and manage a governance board to review, approve, and oversee IT architecture changes and initiatives. 

Regularly assess and ensure compliance with regulatory, security, and industry standards across IT systems and processes. 

 

Standards & Best Practices 

Define and maintain enterprise-wide architecture standards, methodologies, and best practices for application, data, infrastructure, and integration. 

Drive the adoption of these standards and ensure their consistent application across projects and teams. 

Collaborate with business and IT leaders to refine and evolve standards that meet changing business needs. 

 

IT Principles & Strategic Alignment 

Develop and communicate IT guiding principles to align decision-making with the organization’s strategic goals. 

Conduct regular reviews of current IT principles and adjust as needed to support emerging technology trends, regulatory changes, and business shifts. 

Educate and support business and IT stakeholders in understanding and applying these principles in their initiatives. 

 

Stakeholder Engagement & Cross-Functional Collaboration 

Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing insights and recommendations to support strategic planning and project prioritization. 

Engage with business units, project teams, and IT to ensure architecture standards and governance are understood and integrated. 

Facilitate cross-functional workshops to align architecture goals, resolve issues, and promote cohesive decision-making. 

Collaborate with MVW IT and business disciplines with a high sense of urgency and a focus on efficiencies, excellence and results.   

Support EA Senior Leadership to facilitate and manage enterprise architecture deliverables and objectives. 

Drive overall business-technology roadmaps while keeping up to date with emerging technologies across the enterprise architecture and recommend business direction based on these technologies.   

Implement and maintain enterprise architecture tools to promote compliance with standards and processes.   

 

Continuous Improvement & Monitoring 

Establish metrics and KPIs to measure the effectiveness of architecture governance, standards, and principles. 

Conduct regular assessments of IT architecture to identify opportunities for optimization, cost reduction, and improved alignment with business goals. 

Stay current with emerging technology trends and best practices to continuously refine the organization’s architecture standards. 

 

AI/ML Solution Architecture 

Design and implement end-to-end AI and ML solutions that align with business needs and support decision-making. 

Develop architectures that ensure scalability, performance, and integration with existing systems and workflows 

Identify opportunities to enhance products and services through advanced AI applications and lead the conceptualization of these initiatives. 

 

Technical Leadership & Strategy 

Define the AI technology roadmap in collaboration with stakeholders, prioritizing high-impact projects. 

Establish and enforce best practices for AI/ML model development, including feature engineering, model training, deployment, and monitoring. 

Advise on AI platform and tool selection, and recommend infrastructure solutions (e.g., cloud vs. on-premises). 

 

Data Management & Governance 

Oversee data strategy for AI projects, including data collection, preprocessing, and storage. 

Collaborate with data governance and security teams to ensure compliance with privacy regulations and internal standards. 

Design data pipelines that ensure data quality, accessibility, and integration across various systems. 

 

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement 

Partner with data scientists, engineers, and product teams to translate business requirements into AI solutions. 

Engage with business leaders to communicate AI capabilities, project progress, and potential opportunities. 

Provide technical mentorship to data scientists, engineers, and junior architects on AI/ML best practices and architectural decisions. 

 

Continuous Improvement & Innovation 

Stay current with advancements in AI/ML technologies, frameworks, and algorithms, and assess their potential impact on the organization. 

Lead initiatives to integrate new AI techniques, such as deep learning, NLP, or reinforcement learning, where applicable. 

Conduct periodic reviews of AI systems to evaluate performance, accuracy, and relevance, driving continuous improvement efforts. 

Specific Candidate Profile  

Education 

Bachelor of Science (BS) degree that is technology based in information technology, engineering, computer science, or statistical/math sciences required.  

Master’s degree, e.g., MBA or in Computer Science, preferred. 

Experience   

10 + years of experience in Enterprise Architecture, Business Architecture, Information Architecture, Compute/Technology Architecture, and Project Management along with strong focus on architecture governance, standards, and principles.  

10 + years of IT management experience in leading Senior Architects or application development teams 

10 + years of experience in developing/leading architecture solutions for multimillion dollars business-technology initiatives  

5+ years of experience in the Artificial Intelligence domain  

Proven track record of managing and maintaining the enterprise architecture governance frameworks and KPIs 

Proven track record of delivering technology solutions/architecture for large initiatives 

Proven track record of selecting and deploying enterprise business and IT capabilities  

Knowledge of modern compute platforms such as cloud computing, API Platform and Management, Rules Engine, Real-time Analytics, BI/Analytics platform, and Transactional Data Stores 

Experience in hospitality and/or vacation ownership/timeshare industry and/or relevant customer servicing industries.  

Skills 

Strong leadership skills, strong planning and project management skills   

Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture discipline and software development lifecycle and best practices  

Knowledge of TOGAF (Certification preferred), SAFe, DAD, or other proven frameworks
