Vice President in Residence of Special Programs

 

Mission:

As a member of the Academic Service Team, the VP in Residence of Special Programs will report directly to the Senior VP of Special Programs and will support in the oversight of the district’s Special Education, Section 504, Response to Intervention, ESL/Bilingual program, At Risk, Critical Student Intervention Program, and Homebound Services across Texas, Florida, and Ohio.  The VP in Residence of Special Programs is a one-year temporary role that will transition to the Vice President of Special Programs in the 2026-2027 school year. Candidates must be seasoned and innovative vision setters and project managers, with strong communication skills and proven ability to navigate complex programs, including both state and federal compliance, cross-functional scopes of work, and drive strong performance and academic results.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The VP in Residence will indirectly manage, in partnership with the Sr VP of Special Programs, various national special program directors and managers, some of whom are managers of other team members.  The VP in Residence will need to be skilled at leading through influence in order to meet compliance and instructional goals.

 

Location:

This is a full-time hybrid (remote/on-site) position based in Texas, with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate.

 

Travel Expectations:    

The VP in Residence should expect to be in field at least one to two days per week as well as travel extensively to IDEA regions (4-5 days a month) to provide support.

What You’ll Do – Accountabilities

 

Essential Duties:

·          Supervise the successful implementation of the Section 504, Critical Student Intervention (CSI), and Emergent Bilingual programs across the district, including supporting directors with effective strategic compliance and instructional priorities, effective implementation practices, effective trainings, fostering cross-functional collaboration with various teams across the network, data analysis, and in-field observations that drive improved student outcomes.

·          Supervise Special Education program compliance and instructional program implementation, including effective network systems for ensuring all compliance requirements are met and instructional programs meet the diverse needs of all students with IEPs, effective trainings for all stakeholders, and fostering cross-functional collaboration across divisions.

·          Serve on district leadership cross-functional teams made up of senior leaders who work on long-term projects and initiatives that inform school-wide systems, practices, and organizational priorities.

·          Indirectly manage and coach a team of program directors and managing directors to effectively manage large teams, lead through influence, create network-wide systems to support schools, and use data to make informed decisions

Communicate Deliberately: This leader is responsible for communicating complex ideas and strategies across multiple teams or departments. They develop and deliver messages that align with organizational goals, ensuring that their communication strategies enhance team alignment and strategic execution.

 

Additional Skills:

·          IDEA 2004 laws and regulations- Job requires a high level of understanding of Special Education laws and regulations in Texas, Florida, and Ohio

·          Section 504 laws and regulations in Texas, Florida, and Ohio- Job requires a high level of understanding of Section 504 laws and regulations 

·          Dyslexia Handbook Policy- Job requires a high level of understanding of Dyslexia law and regulations across three states (Texas, Florida and Ohio)  

·          Response to Intervention- Job requires a high level of understanding of response to intervention across three states

·          English Language Learner laws and regulations- Job requires a high level of understanding of English language Learner laws and regulations across three states (Texas, Florida and Ohio)  

·          Instructional coaching knowledge-to coach regional staff through coaching cycles to increase the impact of their influence during campus visits and creation of professional development aligned to our coaching model. 

Required experience:

·          Education:  Bachelor’s in education;

·          Experience:  At least 5 years experience with special populations
 

Preferred experience:

·          Master’s Degree preferred  (Special Education a plus)

·          English Language Proficiency Certification preferred

·          Licenses or Certifications (if applicable):  Special Education certification preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

·          Some walking 

·          Sitting for extended periods of time 

·          Light lifting (no more than 20 lbs.)

Compensation & Benefits:

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $119,000 and $142,800, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
