Purpose:
The Head of Apollo and Athene Model Risk is responsible for oversight of model risk across Apollo. They will lead the model risk functions across Athene, AGM and AAM. They will report on model risk to the operational risk committee, management risk committee and board risk committee. They will have ownership of the Apollo and Athene model risk management policies, monitor compliance and work with the business to achieve and maintain compliance with the policy. They will ensure regulatory compliance with all model risk management standards and communicate model risk to external stakeholders, including rating agencies and regulators. Where independent model validation is required, they will either execute validations or oversee validation efforts by other independent parties. The scope of models will be actuarial, pricing, asset models, derivative models, deal models and other financial models used throughout the organization. They will analyze and critiquing models, understanding their application and interconnectedness, conducting necessary testing, and reporting on the findings and providing potential solutions to any issues.
Accountabilities:
+ Ownership of the Athene and Apollo model risk management framework, policies, ensuring consistency across the group, compliance and reporting to management of the state of model risk at ATH, AGM and AAM
+ Leading cross functional working group of model owners across Athene and Apollo
+ Keeping up to date with model risk management regulatory requirements and ensuring Apollo maintains compliance
+ Establish key relationships with the business to foster model risk awareness and culture
+ Actuarial, Finance, Tax, Quants, Deal teams, Portfolio Managers, Treasury, Derivatives, Finance, Internal and External Auditors
+ Continued canvassing of the business for new models or significant model changes
+ Executing independent validations
+ Planning and overseeing independent validations from internal or external subject matter experts
+ Be an effective challenger to first line model owners and developers
+ Present findings to internal and/or external stakeholders
+ Provide support to internal and external auditors
Qualifications and Experience:
+ 10+ years of annuity industry or financial institution experience in an actuarial, quantitative or Risk Management role with asset and liability model development or validation
+ FSA and/or CFA, PRM or FRM desired
+ 5+ years of experience leading and managing a team
+ Experience validating complex models and knowledge of annuity products, financial markets, and actuarial finance preferred
+ Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills and the ability to develop working relationships are required
+ Experience with US Statutory and US GAAP Accounting and Reporting would be beneficial
+ Strong technical, analytical, organizational, computer and team skills required
+ Proven leadership experience and the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
+ Strong communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships within the company
+ Bachelor’s or higher degree in Actuarial Science, Quantitative Finance, Risk Management, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Financial Engineering required
$213,680.00 - $320,520.00 USD Annual
Annual Salary for this role is market competitive. Actual salary for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Depending on the role, a discretionary bonus plan or variable sales incentive may be included.
