About the Role

The Vice President of Engineering will lead the technology strategy and execution for EWC. This role will oversee teams and vendors spanning software development, data engineering, infrastructure and DevOps to align development capabilities with business objectives. 

A Day in the Life

Set the vision and strategy for engineering across the company, aligning technical roadmaps with business objectives.Collaborate with the executive team to ensure alignment between business and technical strategies.Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of robust, scalable, and secure systems supporting our data platforms and associated APIs.Drive the development of scalable microservices, cloud-native solutions, and distributed systems that ensure high availability and performance.Champion data-driven decision-making, ensuring robust data infrastructure, quality, and availability for analytics, data science, and machine learning applications.Lead efforts in adopting emerging technologies to maintain a competitive edge in the e-commerce space.Ensure engineering best practices are in place, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, test automation, and cloud optimization.Monitor and improve system reliability, security, and performance, implementing observability and incident response practices.Develop metrics, dashboards, and reporting tools to measure system performance and team effectiveness.Partner with cross-functionally to deliver impactful technical solutions that drive growth and guest satisfaction.Build and lead a high-performing, cross-functional engineering organization, including data engineering, data delivery, DevOps, and infrastructure.Recruit, mentor, and retain top talent, fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and excellence.Empower leaders and team members to take ownership of their areas while providing guidance and accountability.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.10+ years of engineering experience, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.Proven track record of delivering large-scale, customer-facing software systems, preferably in consumer technology.Strong background in modern software engineering, including cloud-based systems (AWS preferred), scalable architectures, and agile development practices.Experience with data engineering, including data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake/Redshift/Vertica), ELT/ETL tools (e.g., DBT, Airflow), and data pipelines.Expertise in microservices, APIs, and distributed systems.Familiarity with machine learning pipelines, personalization, and recommendation systems is a plus.Experience with AWS Services.Familiarity with DevOps practices and technologies.Knowledge of advanced data and AI/ML applications in e-commerce.
