This is a senior role comprising of Country Executive Team Membership and a Board Advisory Role.

 High level responsibilities:

Single point of contact for all Compliance matters pertaining to the UK market and all UK based legal entities. Key contact point for all UK regulators for regulatory engagement with American Express in the UK. Serves on the UK Country Executive Team as the Chief Compliance Officer for the market. Responsible for oversight, direction and support for all regulatory compliance related matters within the UK for American Express consumer products & services. Responsible for ensuring that regulatory compliance risks relating to American Express legal entities based in the UK are adequately identified, assessed, monitored, and controlled. Direct report of the Head of Compliance, Large Markets. Member of the International Compliance Leadership team. Key escalation point in the market for compliance decisions that need resolution. To ensure that American Express entities in the UK process the personal data of all of its data subjects in compliance with applicable data protection rules.

Detailed responsibilities:

Driving the Compliance strategy and acting as the single compliance voice for the UK market for all compliance risks governed by the Global Compliance Risk Management Policy. Undertaking the role requirements and registrations of the Chief Compliance Officer for Legal Entities operating in the UK. Maintaining strong working relationships with all applicable supervisory and regulatory agencies. Providing strategic compliance advice and assurance to market level and Legal Entity Boards and committees. Strategic advisor to the business for all compliance-related matters, including but not limited to the regulatory implications of new and existing products, services and processes; resolution of compliance-related incidents and gaps; enhancements to the entity’s compliance framework; and the review and approval of business activities. Building deep and effective working relationships with senior business leaders and key stakeholder groups such as General Counsel’s Organisation (GCO), Operational Excellence, Internal Audit Group (IAG). Driving the development and embedding of appropriate and effective governance practices, controls and approval processes required at a business, legal entity and market level, to deliver and evidence regulatory compliance. Partner with GCO to ensure robust identification of changes in relevant legislation, regulatory environment or changes in the business that have compliance related implications. Coordinating and, as necessary, managing supervisory and regulatory examinations and audits. Reporting to senior management and local authorities, as appropriate, the compliance plan, results of second line of defence monitoring and testing, compliance-related risks and risk indicators, and the escalation of compliance issues and incidents. Ensuring the compliance program is documented in compliance manuals and procedures, and regularly updated and maintained. Coordinating, and as necessary, developing and conducting customized training and communication plans to meet legal entity and business needs. Supporting the Anti-Money Laundering compliance program consistent with the American Express Global Anti-Money Laundering Policy, legal entity and local laws and regulations, and being registered with the local authorities as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer for the LE. Supporting the sanctions and PEPs (Politically Exposed Persons) programs consistent with the American Express Global Sanctions and PEPs Policy, legal entity and local laws and regulations. Managing the implementation of Anti-Corruption activities as directed by Enterprise Compliance and according to local legal requirements. Compliance program related to the supervision of personal data treatment process, according to the law and all the relevant provisions, instructions and directives enacted by the data protection authorities in applicable markets. To chair and facilitate Operational Risk Committees across UK LEs. To monitor internal compliance, inform and advise on American Express’ data protection obligations, provide advice regarding Data Protection Impact Assessments and act as a contact point for data subjects and the ICO.

This is a role requiring FCA approval under the Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SM&CR)* and will be subject to additional background verification checks.
