Job Description Vessel Traffic Services Officer (VTSO)
Location: Dover, Kent, UK

About the Role
As a VTSO, you’ll play a vital role in managing vessel movements, protecting navigation safety, and ensuring environmental compliance within Dover’s port and surrounding waters. This position is ideal for deck officers with maritime experience, particularly those transitioning from sea to shore, or for VTS professionals seeking new challenges in a thriving port.
Key responsibilities include:
Monitoring and regulating vessel traffic, including ferries, cargo ships, cruise liners, and recreational boats. Coordinating with vessel masters and pilots to manage safe arrivals and departures. Responding to operational challenges, including high traffic volumes and border force activity. Why Join Us? What We’re Looking Fo
Background:
Deck officer with an OOW (Officer of the Watch) ticket or equivalent. Experience with vessel maneuvering, particularly ferries, is highly valued. Radar operation or MCS Radar Operator certification is advantageous. Candidates from air traffic control or other radar operations backgrounds will also be considered. Skills:
Strong maritime knowledge and situational awareness. Ability to excel in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Training and Development Comprehensive 4-6 month on-the-job training, concluding with a pass/fail assessment. Candidates from non-marine backgrounds may complete a 4-week Nautical Knowledge course. How to Apply
