CLERK5 - CLERICAL SUPPORT, LSCU, GSCU, GI - 5121
SUMMARY
To register patients. To gather and prepare materials necessary to admit inpatient surgical, Surgical Day Care, or GI Lab patients. Assist as needed at the desk area and floor area.
JOB DUTIES
Activates inpatient, Surgical Day Care, or GI Lab patients.
Gathers appropriate information from Admissions to activate patients in a timely manner.
Registers or pre-schedules patients in system.
Obtains patient demographics and insurance information and uses appropriate insurance mnemonics.
Obtains necessary signatures on assignment consents, or other forms.
Prepares all paper work for TBA’s day before the admission.
Verifies assignments with Office Coordinator and Nurse Manager.
Verifies all completed paperwork to the chart in a timely manner.
Checks envelopes for assignments, copies of insurance cards, orders, and necessary forms are signed.
Maintains paper supplies for charts.
Assists Office Coordinator with daily routine and functions of nursing station, i.e. stickering and filling charts.
Obtains all necessary signatures for assignments and Medicare non-covered services.
Monitors location of equipment and maintains appropriate levels of ancillary supplies.
Demonstrates ability to set appropriate priorities and be organized - Sets priorities and meets deadlines. Work is organized.
Demonstrates appropriate use of equipment and cost effective use of supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SPECIFIC JOB DEMANDS
Strength: Sedentary Work - Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Pulling 10 Lbs. occasionally. Mostly sitting, may involve standing or walking for brief periods of time.
Reaching: Occasionally - Extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
Handling: Occasionally - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand.
Fingering: Occasionally - Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
Talking: Frequently - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or to the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Hearing: Frequently - Perceiving the nature of sounds by ear.
Near Acuity: Frequently - Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
Accommodation: Occasionally - Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This factor is required when doing near point work at varying distances from the eye.
Color Vision: Frequently - Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
High school graduate or equivalent secondary education skills. Previous work in a medical environment and working with the public.
Must have good verbal and numerical ability and legible handwriting. Must have knowledge of Medical Terminology and spelling of medical terms. Good spelling is essential.
Communication skills necessary to effectively:
Communicate messages both interdepartmentally and interdepartmentally.
Communicate with public, physician offices and other ancillary departments in the Medical Center. Must be tactful and courteous.
Communicate during emergency and stressful incidents.
BLS required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal Surgical Care Unit environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, and temperature changes. A large part of work time is sitting.
Subject to certain distasteful patient care activities and exposure to communicable diseases.
Normal working hours of day and second shift.
May be exposed to potential hazards such as chemical wastes, body wastes, fluids and other possible infectious material.
