Description:
Under general direction, incumbent supervises the shipment, receipt, issuance, storage and protection of all materials and equipment at two locations, the Water Quality Control Plant warehouse and the M.S.C. Stores warehouse facilities. The incumbent establishes warehousing and distribution standards and procedures utilizing a computerized inventory system, develops storage space utilization plans, prepares and maintains the budget and conducts required inventories of the surplus materials and equipment. Incumbent works within general methods and procedures and exercises considerable independent judgment in selecting the proper courses of action. Incumbent supervises staff at two warehouse locations.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a supervisory classification providing customer service to internal departments and staff related to shipping, receiving and storage of materials. Incumbent oversees daily operations including customer service and supervision of non-management employees. Responsibilities include developing work plans, determining priorities, scheduling, making assignments and determining completion of work. Incumbent also evaluates performance, coaches, trains and disciplines.
Ideal Candidate:
Warehouse management experience,
Public Sector experience preferred
(UPS)- ERP experience – enterprise resource planning (SAP experience preferred)

Essential Duties:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
+ Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; and making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations.
+ Implements and maintains the computerized inventory control system through weekly cycle counts. Coordinates and assures the proper inventory levels are maintained at two warehouses.
+ Establishes and maintains warehousing and distribution standards and procedures for the warehouse facilities. Ensures that all materials are stored in a safe and orderly manner and in compliance with OSHA standards. Maintains Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) files on products warehoused and follows proper storing and shipping procedures for MSDS items.
+ Evaluates tests and recommends enhancements to the computerized purchasing and inventory control system (SAP). This includes testing of patches and other functionality issues.
+ Assists in the planning and preparation of the department's annual budget and other necessary reports.
+ Develops and maintains performance measures, working schedules, duties and evaluations for warehouse staff.
+ Ensures all procedures (work orders and cable issues) are maintained and followed by Utilities.
+ Maintains list of all Police and City surplus. Arranges auction pick ups and negotiates sale of specialty items.
+ Confers with Purchasing and City departments on the variety, quality and desired stock levels of required stock items, recommends items to be added or deleted from the inventory system.
+ Interacts with City departments, especially Utilities & Public Works operating divisions to solve supply, inventory, and distribution issues.
+ Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Minimum Qualifications:
Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge and skills, which would typically be acquired through:
Equivalent to two years college in Warehouse and Distribution Management, Logistics Management, or Services & Supply chain management and six years experience of increasingly responsible warehouse experience, including at least two years supervisory experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing Requirements:
+ Valid California Driver's License;
+ Certified in Hazardous Waste Cal/OSHA requirements;
+ Forklift Operator Certification.
