AWE is currently recruiting for Mechanical Design Engineers (CAD) to join our Applied Warhead Engineering Team and apply their expertise in support of AWE’s Weapon Projects.

Working within the The Applied Engineering Group, we provide expertise that supports the engineering design and development of in-service and future warheads, both directly and in-directly across all key business areas at AWE. It researches, develops and implements new technologies to help improve the capability and efficiency to design, simulate, manufacture and test across AWE.  

These roles are ideally suited to experienced Product Design Engineers looking for a fresh challenge with extensive CAD experience looking to further their career.

Who are we looking for?

We need you to have experience in:

Producing and delivering conceptual designs, detail designs, manufacturing specifications, operational documentation, and validation evidence for mechanical engineering solutions in relation to defined requirements to company standardsProducing calculations and analysis in support of the above when necessaryMaintenance of design historySupporting technical reviews and give presentations on design solutions when necessaryWorking with Senior Engineers in scoping, planning, and estimating future activitiesApplying the practical use of engineering methods, tools, and processesTechnical leadership/mentoring of junior staff, Apprentices & GraduatesMaintaining and promoting high standards in ESH (Environmental, safety & health), security and quality

Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we’d like you to have demonstrate proven industry experience in some of the following:

Experience of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)Experienced in using Computer Aided Design systemsPractical experience of Machine tools and manufacturing processesApplication and knowledge of British and ISO StandardsApplication and knowledge of Material selectionAn understanding of Finite Element Analysis (FEA)Proven experience in a Design Office environmentAn ability to work with a range of stakeholders (technical & non-technical)

We would welcome applicants that have:

A degree, HNC/HND or an equivalent vocational qualification, in an engineering discipline supported by considerable practical experienceExperience and knowledge in Mechanical Engineering Design and specifications to produce fully defined engineering drawing packs to BS 8888 with GD&TExperience using PLM and CAD systems.  Siemens Teamcenter and NX particularly desirable although further training will be provided if needed

Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidates will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston.
