Education and Work Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Experience working with people
Overview of position: The Warming Shelter Manager works overnight hours to serve our homeless clients and oversee operations and staff. It is a high paced environment and requires performing multiple tasks quickly and efficiently. The job requires patience, the ability to diffuse volatile situations between clients and staff and clients and clients. The position also requires the ability to be flexible within the work schedule.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
• Ability to read and write in the English language
• Ability to use phone
• Ability to file, do data entry, and have basic clerical skills
• Ability to de-escalate a potential crisis
• Ability to handle high levels of stress effectively in a busy environment
• Ability to multitask and possess strong interpersonal skills
Software-related skills:
• Working knowledge of integrated database applications
• The ability to use new software programs with basic training
• Ability to access and produce information from a computer
Scope of Position/Essential Functions:
• Manage staffing for Winter Shelter ensuring all shifts are covered
• Train and implement orientation for staff: volunteers
• Supervise and manage Winter Shelter staff
• Order supplies as needed
• Hold staff meetings as needed, keep staff informed
• Record all statistics as needed for TSA and City of C/S
• Responsible to turn all timecards in to HR dept. on a regular basis as required for payroll
• Have a humane and caring attitude toward all residents
• Give high priority for the welfare of all the residents
• Always maintain a professional attitude and appearance
• Maintain supplies necessary for Winter Shelter operations
• Assist in the gathering and recording of required information from all guests
• Understand all policies and procedures for the center and implement them in daily work
• Accurate collection of vital statistics during intake
• Maintain accurate attendance records of all clientele
• Oversee or perform daily operation of shelter tasks to include cleaning, laundry, and serving of meals, etc.
• Responsible to adhere to and implement policies of the Winter Shelter and those of The Salvation Army
• Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
• Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead
• Ability to operate telephone
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
• Ability to access and produce information from a computer
• Ability to understand written information and implement as needed
