About the role

Position Description

The Plant Superintendent role reports to the Operations Manager at the Reworld Honolulu plant located in Kapolei. The Superintendent oversees operations within the Facility to maintain the efficient processing of municipal solid waste that is converted to refuse-derived fuel.  This position ensures their department operates in a safe, cost effective, and efficient production manner, and directs a team of three shift supervisors.

Position Location:
This position is located in Kapolei at Reworld Honolulu’s Thermomechanical Transfer Facility [TTF]. Relocation assistance is offered to qualified candidates. This role requires full-time on-site availability.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following activities:

Plans and monitors production standards and priorities to effectively process municipal solid waste (MSW) and convert it to refuse-derived fuel (RDF), through:   Review of processing schedules to make decisions concerning MSW inventory levels, staffing requirements, and duty assignments considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.Administers the daily receipt of incoming MSW and analyzes availability of RDF to the power operating facilities, including material processing at the Waste Auxiliary Building, and usage of the mobile baler operations when required.Manages the upkeep of equipment and machinery and effectively coordinates maintenance repairs with a minimum of downtime and reviews operations and confers with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing issues.Enforces and maintains environmental, health and safety, and permit requirements.Authorizes new hires, trains, evaluates, or discharges staff, resolves personnel grievances, and evaluates employee performance.Analyzes performance goals and targets, provides input on development of the department’s annual budget, and monitors departmental expenditures.Develops operating strategies to improve and/or modify plant operations, maintenance, or equipment, and monitors the effectiveness of plant manuals and procedures, instituting changes or additions.Implements operational and emergency procedures to ensure the plant’s readiness to meet unusual situations and safe, efficient day-to-day operations.Maintains current knowledge of waste processing requirements, relying on current literature pertaining to machinery, technological advances, or statistical studies.

Position Requirements

Education (Degrees, Certifications, Fields of Study):

High school diploma or GED required.  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an appropriate field of study is preferred.5-8 years of progressively responsible supervisory and management experience in waste recovery or waste processing activities, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications:

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ (ASME), QRO Provisional Certification is desirable; or, must be able to qualify for this certification within six months of employment.  This certification program is intended for individuals that combust Municipal Solid Waste (MSW).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Understand the principles, practices and methods of operation and maintenance of solid waste management systems, including waste reduction, recycling, landfill, and energy-from-waste.Ability to supervise and coordinate technical, operational, and administrative staff activities and programs.Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications and organizational skills.Proficient with Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Ability to use independent judgment to take appropriate action in an emergency.

Physical Demands:

Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb ladders.Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs.Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces.Qualify to wear a full-face respirator. Consistently work in various weather conditions.

Shift:

Monday through Friday days. Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays on a non-routine basis, if needed, to support facility operations.

What Reworld Offers You:
The expected base salary range for this role is: $115,264.00 - $152,810.50 annually. This is a good faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this position. The final figure will take into account a variety of factors including experience, ability, and location. Reworld is committed to paying its staff equitably, and these ranges should not be considered career salary limits or caps.
