This position will be based in Japan, primarily at a customer location aboard Marine Corp Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, in support of the Amentum Base Operations & Support contract with the US Department of Defense (DoD)/Navy- Marine Corps.
A successful candidate will have strong communication and problem-solving skills to support a rewarding customer mission. Independently operate, maintain, modify, troubleshoot and repair water distribution and waste-water collection/treatment systems. Monitor and control the physical and chemical characteristic of the water and waste being treated.
In addition to meeting the necessary qualifications the selected candidate must be comfortable working in a dynamic and high-energy environment.
Working Environment: Non-SOFA assignment
Work Schedule: This position works eight hours/day five days a week minimum.
The candidate participates in a 24/7 duty phone rotation.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Calibrate W/W plant instrumentation and systems controls using electronic, mechanical, chemical and electrical test equipment.
+ Operate engines and equipment that drive water pumps, as required.
+ Start and stop pumps, motors, engines, etc. to control and regulate the flow of sewage through the processing phases.
+ Assist in the maintenance, repair an adjustment of plumbing systems, such as water, drain lines, sprinkler systems, etc. Report all system malfunctions to supervision per established guidelines.
+ Assist in rebuilding, modifying and testing of plumbing systems.
+ Work with verbal information, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, technical publications, instruction bulletins and applicable specifications, codes and ordinances.
+ Sample and analyze water and treat, as required.
+ Perform minor insulation with prefabricated mineral insulating materials, bindings, plastic, cement, etc. as required.
+ Performs routine inspections of water reservoirs, water lines, and waste water systems. Collects and inputs system data.
+ Maintain logs, records, charts and related documentation as required.
+ Participates in on-call duty, responding to various emergency notifications after normal working hours.
Minimum Acceptable Experience and Qualification Levels:
+ Experience in municipal water or wastewater treatment systems
+ Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, materials, and regulations used in the maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment equipment and systems.
Education:
+ A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator vocational diploma or completion of an Apprentice program is preferred.
Language Requirement:
+ Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing Japanese including reading and using building diagrams and technical manuals.
+ Bilingual in speaking English and Japanese is preferred.
Professional Licenses & Certifications:
+ Wastewater certification or equivalent experience.
Work Environment:
+ Most positions involve work typical of a shop or outdoor environment, in varying weather conditions.
+ Constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning and organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. Equipment may be loud and noisy or have exposed moving components. Such positions may involve routine lifting up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling and carrying, and constant use of vision and mental alertness is required.
+ This classification may include occasional managing of hazardous materials or other environmental responsibilities.
Other Requirements:
+ Candidate must possess a valid passport of home country with a minimum of 12 months remaining to expiration date, if not currently a resident of Japan.
+ Will be expected to obtain a company-sponsored Japanese Work Visa if not currently a resident of Japan.
+ Position requires the applicant to drive in the performance of work duties. Applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a Japanese Driver License and be able to operate a Company provided motor vehicle on MCAS Iwakuni.
Transportation is not provided to locally hired personnel for the purpose of commute to and from the workplace. Non-locally hired are expected to obtain and maintain the legal ability to operate a Company provided vehicle both on and off the installation for the purpose of commute and/or on-site transportation. Those unable to obtain and maintain the legal means to operate a motor vehicle in Japan or aboard the installation will be responsible for their own transportation for all purposes.
Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
